Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Director, Youth Development (School Age), the Manager of Youth Development, School Age is responsible for establishing and implementing the mission, strategic goals, and values of the YMCA within the community.  This involves all aspects of building an outstanding staff team that can develop and deliver school age programming in the YMCA service area.  This position is responsible for program enrollment, building and managing program budgets, developing and working with staff teams, and improving the operating performance of School’s Out, Day Camp and Summer Learning programs.  The Manager, Youth Development (School Age) works with program staff to ensure that the programs support the needs of each family and meet the goals and objectives set by DCFS and the McGaw YMCA. In addition, this position will work collaboratively with the other Manager, Youth Development (School Age Programs).

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or approved educational plan to attain a Bachelor’s Degree
  • 6 semester units of DCFS hours of credit from an accredited university in courses related to childcare/child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related field
  • 3 years of experience in a school age program
  • 3 years of supervisory or mentoring experience
  • YMCA experience preferred
  • Must have a good driving record to become a certified DCFS Child Care Facility Driver
  • Hands on knowledge of effective operating approaches and program development; ability to develop a
    positive, effective, professional staff team; high level competency skills in communication, problem solving, decision making, and quality program delivery; experience in financial management, community
    development, risk management, and managing diversity.
  • The willingness to participate in swimming enrichment classes and the ability to feel comfortable in waterup to 9 feet deep.
