Senior Program Director - Aquatics

Job Description

Under the direction of the Executive Director-Aquatics and consistent with the mission and policies of the YMCA of Western North Carolina, the Senior Program Director-Aquatic Programming oversees the operations of all Swim Lessons and other aquatics programming throughout the YMCA of WNC, including volunteer and staff development, financial management and collaborations with community agencies. They directly oversee Aquatics leadership in the setup, organization and administration of Swim Lessons and associated programming, and have responsibility for guiding and setting direction to incorporate best practices in Swim Lesson programs across the Association. They directly manage all operations for the Aquatics department at their home location as well as other assigned sites. They are a vital member of YMCA leadership staff and a highly visible representative of the YMCA mission and core values. They are accountable for knowing and properly executing YMCA policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business, or equivalent is required.  (Extensive related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.)
  2. Three or more years of management experience preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency. (Preferred: multi-department/location supervisory experience)
  3. Ability to direct multiple department operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  4. YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification is preferred, or obtain within two years from date of hire.
  5. CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
  6. Lifeguard & Lifeguard Instructor required, and Lifeguard Trainer preferred.
  7. Swim Lesson Instructor required, and Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Contribute to the overall Y mission of strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility with primary focus in Swim Lessons and associated programming.
  • Model professional interaction with other employees, members, program participants, volunteers, and the community while always demonstrating the YMCA’s voice and core values.
  • Develops and implements an annual association calendar to provide all necessary training throughout the association, including LGI, YSL & courses focusing on working with people with diverse abilities. Ensure correct entry into systems
  • Ensure teams deliver quality work within given deadlines and expectations without direct supervision.
  • Develop and enhance the quality and innovation of the member and participant experience to improve retention, cross pollination, and growth.
  • Develop, coordinate, market, and evaluate service line program offerings and services.
  • Provide direct support to all Aquatic Directors and staff regarding Swim Lesson programming and operations at your home location.
  • Recruit, train, and develop program staff and volunteers in Aquatics as needed throughout the Association.
  • Work to align all Swim Lesson marketing material across the Association.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and participation in programs for all centers and off-site locations.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other community organizations across the association.
  • Work with Executive Directors and Aquatics leadership team to coordinate use of aquatic facilities for members, program activities and events across the Association ensuring we don’t have overlapping conflicts.
  • Establish new program activities and expand programming within the community in accordance with the Association’s strategic plan.
  • Drive strong recruitment, development, and succession planning processes to ensure the hiring, professional development, and retention of high-quality staff.
    • Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develop annual budget for portfolio.
    • Monitor monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met, and expenses are controlled.
  • Complete monthly variance reports and forecast updates.
    • Adjust operations as needed to achieve fiscal targets.
  • Ensure staff meetings are productive and high functioning. Continually communicate with and inform service line leadership staff about YMCA initiates and trends.
  • Work with leadership to set achievable operational and performance goals for assigned staff.
  • Responsible for the entry of all Swim Lesson programs into Daxko for the Association on a timely basis ensuring uniformity.
  • Ensures the consistency and follow-through of all directed points of contact within a swim lesson session (Welcome Letter, Mid-Session Report, Achievement) through Association software package.
  • Oversee roster management ensuring that all classes are populated appropriately and wait lists managed across the service line.
  • Ensure the implementation of the Association’s risk management program to ensure safe facilities and programs for members, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ensure all the policies of the organization are implemented, including Financial, Human Resources, and Program Policies.
  • Support the strategic direction of the Association and appropriate committees, cabinets, and other work groups.
  • Respond to participant and community inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Develop committed relationships. Share knowledge of programs, events, and resources with members and participants throughout your home location and within the community when representing the YMCA.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Certifications
