Social Media Specialist

This position provides social media support to Y-USA and the Y Movement to enhance social media engagement.
Job Description

The Social Media Specialist is responsible for contributing to organic content creation, publishing and community management across YMCA of the USA’s social media channels.

Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, journalism or equivalent experience

• Two years of social media content creation, content strategy planning and community management experience, preferably in a high-performing, results-based professional environment • Experience creating content and fostering engagement on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn and Snapchat

• Ability to learn and stay abreast of emerging social media channels and trends

• Intermediate Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud skills, inclusive of Photoshop

• Experience analyzing social media performance and making recommendations to improve engagement metrics

• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

• Ability to problem solve, prioritize multi-task and work across cross-functional teams

• Experience working in nonprofit or mission-based organization, preferred

• Requires a commitment to the YMCA character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility

Essential Functions

Create original content to represent the brand to diverse digital audiences

• Collaborate with peers at local Ys to curate content

• Create visual content within brand guidelines

• Support daily monitoring and moderation of social media channels and related activity

• Ongoing reporting and tracking of daily, weekly and monthly activity and trends

• Foster community and respond to user engagement on social media channels

• Adapt content to be accessible to broad audiences, for example, captioning video content

• Identify and elevate cultural/social media trends that are relevant to the brand

• Contribute to social strategy, campaign and quarterly content planning

• Contribute to elevating mission-critical issues across national social channels in alignment with the Y’s core values and strategic priorities

• Proactively communicate with internal team and external partners related to social media content

• Identify emerging social channels and opportunities for short- or long-term content adoption

• Perform other duties as assigned
