Job Description

This position is under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer and is primarily responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of Member Services at the Redlands Family YMCA.  The role also includes leadership, subject matter expertise, and execution of strategic objectives for fitness across the association.

The Associate Executive Director (AED) is responsible for Members Services, Fitness, Kids Club, Special Events and Community Outreach at the Redlands Family YMCA.  AED is also responsible for facility maintenance, emergency action planning, financial assistance program, division leadership in community campaign and fitness licensing and equipment asset management. This role provides subject matter expertise with the ability to follow industry trends to improve fitness offerings for the association.

  • Must be 21 years of age with a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Fitness or related field
  • Experience developing, designing, implementing, and evaluating fitness programs, member services and community outreach
  • Minimum of 5-years health & fitness experience with 3 years-supervisory experience
  • Minimum current ACE (ACSM, AFAA, ISSA, NETA or comparable) certifications for foundations of strength and conditioning and foundations of group exercise required
  • Minimum CPR/FPR, FA, O2 and AED required
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to delegate, supervise, and motivate others to achieve the mission and objectives of the YMCA
  • Must be persuasive and able to lead peers effectively to ensure end results are achieved
  • Must have visual, auditory and ability to respond quickly in an emergency 
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher & Outlook
  • Desired Skills:
  • YMCA Multi-Team Leader
  • Group Exercise Instructor trainer certification and/or third party certification (Zumba, Les Mills, Barre, etc.) a plus
  • YMCA or other non-profit experience a plus
Essential Functions
  • Develops annual budgets and implements fiscal controls to ensure the budgeted goals are met
  • Performs and evaluates community needs and develops programs accordingly
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff
  • Coordinates with marketing department to market and communicate department offerings
  • Provides leadership to fundraising campaign at the division level, and assists in recruiting of key leadership and campaigners. Ensures that staff achieves their goals according to the association timeline
  • Provides executive leadership to Membership Affinity group as fitness subject matter expert. Responsible for implementation of association strategic initiatives for Fitness, Wellness and community outreach programs with a goal of growth and program quality improvement
  • Maintains a friendly, positive, safe, and supportive environment for members, participants and staff
  • Attends all staff meetings, board meetings, in-service trainings, and special events as called upon
  • Follows the YMCA personnel policies, practices, salary administration plan, emergency procedures and risk management, and implements Membership by Design in each of his/her departments
