Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high-quality Y youth programs that enhance the developmental assets in children. Director of Youth Programs must be committed to the Wenatchee Valley YMCA mission and the values of: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and three years related experience preferred.
  • Ability to direct assigned operations including, but not limited to: supervision and development of staff, development and management of budget, marketing and public relations, program development, and volunteer development.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Previous youth program development, implementation and assessment experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire and maintenance of certification required.
  • Criminal background clearance within association standards.
  • Minimum age requirement of 21.  Requires insurance-approved motor vehicle record, Washington Driver’s License.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience, within the YMCA preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Directs, manages, and coordinates all aspects of youth outreach, youth sports, and youth mentoring programs to fulfill the Y’s objectives, adhering to all Y health and safety standards and policies. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Ensures programming that embraces healthy mind, body, and spirit.
  • Recruits, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Establishes work priorities in achieving strategic and operation plan goals.   Reviews and evaluates staff performance.  Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of information for such programs.
  • Maintains an active presence in all department program areas providing direct leadership and fostering a culture of open communication.
  • Responds to member, staff, and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Knows, reviews, practices, follows, and makes recommendations to improve safety procedures and practices at Wenatchee Valley YMCA.  Inspects facilities and program areas evaluating safety and compliance in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and/or applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provides for upkeep of program facilities, certifications, and program equipment. 
  • Represents and promotes the Y in the local community.  Develops and maintains collaborative, positive working relationships with community agencies in service delivery area modeling relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Develops, manages, and controls youth program budget.  Ensures program fees are collected. Takes appropriate action to correct variances.

Other Position Functions

  • Coordinates efforts of staff team to ensure the security of the Wenatchee Valley YMCA to protect the safety of the members, staff and the public.
  • Creates a culture of excellence in program delivery and service quality. 
  • Maintains clean, attractive, safe and functional facilities that meet or exceed Health Codes and Y standards.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations of youth programs and evaluate compliance with Y standards, the code of conduct and child abuse prevention standards. 
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Advocates for and supports association efforts for all funding campaigns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
