Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Extended Learning and the Operations Executive, the Teen Program Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of youth recruitment, outreach and programming, and the communication of necessary information to parents, members, schools and volunteers for the ACHIEVER’s, Boys and Young Men of Color Programs. The Teen Program Director will oversee programs and Special Events for Teens. The Teen Program Director must see that established policies are carried out and ensure that program activities are conducted in a professional and safe manner.

Qualifications
  • Four-year degree, with at least two years of related experience
  • Practical knowledge of youth programming
  • Must possess excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire
  • Must exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA
  • The incumbent must have the ability to relate to a diverse group of people that come from a wide socio-economic background in the community
  • Solid organizational and time management acumen
  • Position requires practical data entry and customer service skills
  • Seek out and involve others using creativity, initiative, flexibility, energy, eagerness and genuine concern for today’s youth

  • High level of knowledge and demonstrated competence in the areas of teens programming.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No directly reporting staff at this time, but that will change as the program evolves.  Incumbent will be responsible for working with volunteers, including Adult ACHIEVER’s from area businesses. 

 

 

Essential Functions
  • Develop/implement programs that meet the needs of the YMCA Youth Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program
  • Achieve goals as outlined by City of Milwaukee Block Grant
  • Responsible for the ACHIEVER’s program delivery.
  • Deliver the Boys and young Men of Color Program.
  • Promote an environment where kids trust and feel comfortable with adult role models
  • Build relationships of trust, understanding, and respect between participants
  • Maintain and complete incident reports and permission slips as needed
  • Maintain accurate records for reporting on all youth, programs and activities
  • Lead the Y’s Teen Programming
  • Supervise Youth Program Instructors
  • Act as a mentor to Teen participants and volunteers.
  • Responsible for strict adherence to and annually reviews all S&T policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules and other regulations; current CPR, First Aid, First Responder training.   
  • Requires flexible hours to work evenings and weekends.
  • Assume all responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the supervisor
  • Responsible for strict adherence to all center/department policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules and other regulations
  • The incumbent will ensure programs run smoothly, safely, and that the participants grow through positive interaction with adults and their peers
  • Implementation of quality CDBG Programming which meet member and community needs
  • Create a friendly, constructive, and safe atmosphere for teens to learn skills, build self-esteem, and get along well with others through structured activities
  • Increase the amount of neighborhood resident participants in our programming
  • Achieve goals as outlined by each of the Programs
  • Be committed to the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee’s Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention efforts as a mandatory reporter.
