POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Association Director of Healthy Living and Community Health will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to create meaningful partnerships that expand access to health and wellness services.

This role requires strong leadership in program design, staff development, and operational oversight to ensure the successful implementation of initiatives that promote chronic disease prevention, active lifestyles, and overall well-being. The position will also collaborate with other departments to integrate health-focused strategies into membership engagement efforts, ensuring that all individuals, including those in special membership categories, receive tailored support and resources to enhance their wellness journey.

Through strategic leadership and collaboration, the Association Director of Healthy Living and Community Health will drive innovation in health programming, expand partnerships with healthcare and research institutions, and position the Y as a leader in community health.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Wellness Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Health/Physical Education, or a related field.
    10+ years of experience developing and implementing community health programs and initiatives preferred with a focus on health equity.
  • Nationally Recognized Personal Training Certification.
  • Strong leadership, management, and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication, time management, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability in relationship building and collaborating with healthcare professionals toward a common goal.
  • Results-oriented leader capable of executing effective sales and retention strategies that enhance YMCA impact and foster member loyalty.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). 
  • Experience with customer relations management (CRM) software.
  • Utilization of data analytics to inform decisions and drive effective strategies and tactics. Previous experience in preparing reports. 
  • Must be able to work a 40+ hour workweek with some weekends and holidays. Ability to travel as needed.
  • Must obtain YMCA-related training (e.g., CPR/First Aid) within 90 days of hire.
Essential Functions
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships, representing the YMCA with community health agencies, the Department of Public Health, and healthcare providers, including local hospitals and universities.
  • Designs and implements joint program planning between community health agencies, healthcare providers, and the YMCA.
  • Provides direct supervision to staff working with Evidence-Based Health Initiatives, ensuring high-quality program delivery and compliance with best practices.
  • Develops and oversees revenue-generating wellness programs, including personal training, small-group training, wellness coaching, and specialty health programs, ensuring growth in participation, financial sustainability, and member engagement.
  • Manages and provides support for health initiative grants, including assisting with tracking, invoicing, selecting grant program materials, and generating statistical reports.
  • Expand the corporate wellness program by developing a system to train staff, establish relationship teams, and maintain consistent contact with corporate partners to ensure satisfaction and engagement.
  • Implements new community health initiatives and communicates Association goals, objectives, and policies to the community and key stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the Association Healthy Living Cabinet Executive Sponsor, develops and implements a strategy for expanding personal training services, encompassing recruitment, training, and development of personal trainers, as well as tracking key performance indicators and enhancing awareness of personal training options among members.
  • Provide leadership and support to the Healthy Living Cabinet in setting and achieving association-wide goals, objectives, policies, and signature community health events.
  • Assists in developing and implementing innovative fee-based wellness programs that align with community needs and support the YMCA’s financial health, including specialty fitness classes, nutrition services, and virtual wellness offerings.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, represents the YMCA in media appearances, news stories, press releases, and other public relations opportunities to promote the Y’s healthy living initiatives and increase community awareness of programs and services.
  • Provides regular updates to Association Leadership and periodic presentations to the Association Board.
  • Assist in developing Healthy Living and Community Health strategic goals and objectives, including convening and ensuring measurable progress toward key health initiatives.
  • Ensures that nutrition and physical activity are appropriately integrated into health initiatives, programming, and the overall center environment, promoting a holistic approach to well-being.
  • Assists in developing and executing strategic communication plans and marketing strategies that effectively connect members with wellness programming and community outreach efforts.
  • Facilitates stronger connections between membership and wellness, streamlining processes to create a seamless experience for participants and enhance program engagement.
  • Maintains a positive and collaborative working relationship with YMCA of the USA, branch leadership, directors, and other YMCA staff related to health and wellness programs and services.
  • Coordinates Nationally Recognized Programs, including the Y Diabetes Prevention Program, Total Movement Parkinson's Programs, and LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, among others. Ensures program implementation, staff training, and annual performance evaluations.
  • Ensures the quality and continuity of all health and wellness programs, incorporating best practices, participant feedback, and ongoing program evaluation.
  • Integrates data and insights from Evidence Based Programs and Leading Practices to enhance wellness programs across the Association, ensuring alignment with national health trends and YMCA priorities.
  • Supports Association-wide efforts to provide health and wellness-related training, including becoming a trainer in a relevant field as needed.
  • Helps to expand the YMCA’s annual fundraising campaign, identifying opportunities to secure additional funding for health initiatives.
  • In collaboration with the Association Healthy Living Cabinet Executive Sponsor, assess group exercise and other Y programmatic offerings to determine effectiveness and relevance. Provides recommendations to foster improved health statistics.
  • Meets regularly with branch leadership to identify opportunities for expanding health programming and improving member engagement efforts that foster growth and improved health outcomes with a focus on West Louisville and communities experiencing health inequities.
  • Meets monthly with CEO and key wellness staff to develop and implement association strategic goals around healthy living and community health. 
  • Assists the Association Healthy Living Cabinet Executive Sponsor with wellness equipment orders.

DESIRED OUTCOMES: 

  • Expanded Community Health Partnerships – Establish at least three new partnerships annually with local hospitals, universities, or health agencies to enhance program offerings and community impact.
  • Increased Revenue from Wellness Programs – Achieve a 10% annual increase in revenue from personal training, small-group training, and specialty wellness programs, ensuring financial sustainability and program expansion.
  • Successful Implementation of Evidence-Based Programs – Maintain a program completion rate of at least 90% for participants in Y-USA chronic disease prevention and health programs (e.g., Diabetes Prevention Program, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA), with measurable improvements in participant health outcomes.
  • Enhanced Member Retention and Engagement – Improve member retention by 5% annually through intentional connections between membership and wellness programs, ensuring a seamless transition from onboarding to long-term engagement for participants.
  • Growth in Corporate Wellness Engagement – Increase corporate wellness participation by 15% year-over-year, measured by new corporate memberships, program enrollment, and engagement levels.
  • Measurable Impact of Wellness Events and Trainings – Successfully coordinate at least four signature community wellness events per year, with at least 1,000 participants total, and deliver quarterly staff wellness training sessions to ensure high-quality program delivery and staff development.
