Under the direction of the Executive Director of Programs and consistent with the mission and policies of the YMCA of Western North Carolina, the Senior Program Director is responsible for the effective daily operations of their assigned program areas and leads the Association’s ongoing efforts for continual improvement, growth and development of new programs that align with strategic priorities and community needs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing direct leadership to staff throughout the Association, coordinating program operations, facilitating cross pollination, ensuring program development and growth, promoting participant satisfaction, driving retention and safety, engaging in key community collaborations, and overseeing training needs within their service lines.
The Senior Program Director is accountable for ensuring the delivery of exceptional programs and services throughout their program areas. They are a vital member of the YMCA’s leadership team and a highly visible representative of the YMCA mission and core values. They are accountable for knowing and properly executing YMCA policies and procedures.
Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business, or equivalent is required. (Extensive related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.)
Three or more years of management experience preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency. (Preferred: multi-department/location supervisory experience)
Ability to direct multiple department operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification is preferred, or obtain within two years from date of hire.
CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
Develop, coordinate, market, and evaluate service line program offerings and services, ensuring the safe, sound and effective operations of programs within YMCA centers and off-site locations.
Contribute to the overall Y mission of strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility with primary focus in athletics and youth and family (teens).
Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs that support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
Ensure teams deliver quality work within given deadlines and expectations without direct supervision.
Develop sport and teen-specific proformas to ensure financial sustainability and/or value-add of each offering prior to its operations.
Utilize Listen360 to positively impact program quality and retention. Utilize marketing resources and Cabinets to cross-pollinate with other areas ensuring the Athletics and Teen service lines add value to YMCA membership.
Model professional interaction with other employees, members, program participants, volunteers, and the community while always demonstrating the YMCA’s voice and core values.
Oversee the hiring, training, and supervision of service line leadership staff within portfolio.
Drive strong recruitment, development, and succession planning processes to ensure the hiring, professional development, and retention of high-quality staff. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
Develop annual budget for portfolio. Monitor monthly financial reports to ensure that revenue targets are met, and expenses are controlled.
Complete monthly variance reports and forecast updates. Adjust operations as needed to achieve fiscal targets.
Ensure staff meetings are productive and high functioning. Continually communicate with and inform service line leadership staff about YMCA initiatives and trends.
Work with leadership to set achievable operational and performance goals for assigned staff.T hese goals must align with long term goals and strategies of the Association.
Ensure the Association’s risk management program is implemented to ensure safe facilities and programs for members, volunteers, and staff.
Ensure all the policies of the organization are executed, including Financial, Human Resources, and Program Policies.
Support the strategic direction of the Association and appropriate committees, cabinets, and other work groups.
Respond to participant and community inquiries in a timely manner.
Develop committed relationships. Share knowledge of programs, events, and resources with members and participants throughout centers and within the community when representing the YMCA.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
