Fleet Mechanic

YMCA Of The Triangle is seeking to hire a fleet mechanic to help support our transportation department

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Fleet Superintendent, the Fleet Mechanic is responsible for performing inspections, running diagnostics, and light to medium repair work (routine and tire repairs) for all of the vehicles owned and operated by the YMCA of the Triangle.  This position will require travel throughout all service areas of the YMCA of the Triangle including Wake, Orange, Durham, & Pamlico county.   

The Fleet Mechanic will be expected to provide hand tools under ½ inch drive, pliers, screwdrivers, drills, and other small hand tools as required. This position will be equipped with a service van or truck equipped with the following tools: Air compressor and associated tools, ½ in drive socket set and above, air jacks, tire repair equipment, lube system, grease gun, and other various tools. Mechanic 2’s will be eligible for an annual tool purchase reimbursement program up to $750 a year.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.  Associate's Degree or Trade School diploma in Mechanics or other related fields preferred.
  • General knowledge and proven skills in the repair and maintenance of medium to heavy duty diesel equipment.  Diesel repair certification preferred. 
  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s license with Passenger endorsements and Valid DOT medical card within 6 months after hire
  • Ability to related effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Requires a positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
  • Ability to utilize or learn smart phone and mobile laptop for work order and fleet management systems
Essential Functions
  • Performs all preventative maintenance tasks as assigned by the Fleet Superintendent.
  • Completes repairs on tires, brake systems, and other drive line components for all vehicles owned and operated by the YMCA of the Triangle.
  • Performs light to medium engine repairs including all engine accessories, injection pumps, turbo chargers, cooling system, and air compressors
  • Provides recommendations to the Fleet Superintendent for major engine and driveline repairs. 
  • Diagnoses and repairs electrical systems issues as needed.
  • Responsible for locating and creating a comprehensive database of factory diagrams to use for ongoing repairs.
  • Performs and records annual Department of Transportation inspections, as well as state safety and emissions inspections.
  • Responds to roadside emergencies while providing logistical support to the association’s transportation team.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies, spare parts, and equipment for all vehicles owned and operated by the YMCA of the Triangle.
  • Utilizes established vendors for acquiring parts and equipment.
  • Effectively manages and records service and work orders using the YMCA’s fleet management software(s).
  • Coordinates heavy duty repairs with established vendors.
  • Assists in other transportation related needs as required. 
Required Certifications

A Commercial Driver’s License, with “P” endorsement must be obtained with-in the first year of employment in order to drive a YMCA bus as needed.
