Under the supervision of the Camp Director, the camp counselor is responsible for helping to plan and implement the camp program, identifying and meeting camper needs, leading and guiding a group of campers, while maintaining YMCA day camp standards and DPH standards.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:45am-5:00pm, employees will be expected to participate in pre-camp trainings including all staff training on Saturday, June 7th--Camp runs 6/23/2025-8/22/2025
Pay: $16.00 per hour for new hires, $16.50 for returning 1 year history Camp Counselors, $17.00 for returning Camp Counselor w/ 2+ years of employment history. Plus, Access to YMCA Facilities for all YMCA employees, Employee Assistance Program, & Sick Leave.

- Current CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications or able to get these certifications within 30 days of hire

- High School graduate or equivalent and at least 18 years of age
- Must be flexible & a team player!
- Previous Childcare experience preferred
- Work with Camp Director and Camp Experience Coordinator staff before camp opening to set up camp program areas and the program for campers.
- Attend and participate in staff trainings and meetings.
- Commit to working the entire camp season. If you need time-off, it MUST be approved prior to hiring!
- Keep daily attendance records of campers in assigned group. Distribute and collect assigned paperwork to the campers. Submit all required reports on time.
- Plan creative and interesting activities for assigned group of campers as the daily schedule permits.
- Maintain camp area in an orderly fashion and keep free of trash and garbage. Assist in storing all materials and supplies at end of day, week and season.
- Help supervise the morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up of campers. Remain at camp drop off until the last camper is gone.
- Assist in nature walks, art/crafts, and other activities as assigned.
- Supervise swim activities at the waterfront and assist lifeguards and Waterfront Director when necessary.
- Know the whereabouts of all campers in the group at all times.
- Observe and enforce all safety regulations. Administer first-aid and CPR, as necessary.
- Develop opportunities for interaction between campers and staff.
- Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success during camp and to discuss individual or group problems/concerns
- Supervise all assigned aspects of the camper’s day including mealtime and the general camp program.
- Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, missing child drill, etc.
- Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing, clean up, chores and sportsmanship.
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
- Maintain good public relations with camper’s parents/guardians.
- Evaluate current season and make suggestions for following season.
- Other duties as assigned.
