The YMCA Camp Cullen facility is a best-in-class facility, intentionally designed to deliver a high-quality, immersive experience to kids of all ages. The cabins, activities, layout and amenities, mixed with the well-preserved natural environment provide a perfect setting for fun, growth, excitement, disconnection from the hustle of the world and reconnection with nature and new friends.
Provides direct supervision of all matters pertaining to the Creative Arts present at YMCA Camp Cullen. Ensures that all necessary activity equipment is available and in good working condition for staff to use. Ensures that all necessary safety equipment is available and in good working condition. Supervises staff running arts activities and prioritizes the quality of programming for all arts activities. Assists in training staff to set up, run and lead arts activities. Maintains safe conditions for all land activity areas. Oversees the housing system, a method for organizing campers into certain sub-sections (Houses) of Camp Cullen allowing for subcultures to exist providing a unique experience for all campers. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes camper safety and engagement. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on youth development including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.
1. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
2. At least 18 years of age.
3. Prefer 2 years previous experience working in a camp setting and 1 year of supervisory experience.
4. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention trainings.
6. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
1) Supervises arts activity staff in program areas.
2) Assists arts program staff in delivering safe, fun and effective arts programming.
3) Sorts new campers into their houses at the beginning of every week of camp.
4) Maintains record of returning campers and their subsequent houses.
5) Keeps organized details of campers’ houses throughout the summer and provides reports to the summer camp director each week to be kept on record.
6) Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.
7) Delivers a safe, fun and creative addition to the summer camp program.
a) Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedures pertaining to arts activities.
b) Maintains constant surveillance of the arts program areas when campers, guests or staff are present.
c) Assists the activity coordinator in creating fun, safe and engaging house-based evening programs.
d) Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for activities.
e) Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
f) Take immediate action to ensure safety procedures are followed by campers. Follows up with summer camp director to determine long-term solutions/actions, provides timely and accurate reports and follow-ups.
8) Responsible for completing tasks related to arts-based programming.
a) Works with the team to set up the arts area prior to summer camp activities. This includes the completion of inspection of facilities, ensuring necessary equipment is available, EAPs are in place for specific program areas, EAPS are in place for specific incidents, equipment preparation for arts activities as directed by the summer camp director.
b) Works with the team to sort campers into their houses or keep record of returning campers and keeping them in their established house.
c) Assists in training, supervising, monitoring and mentoring of staff at arts program areas.
d) Participates in the completion of closing procedures following summer camp activities.
e) Conducts check of arts facilities and equipment for safety, cleanliness, organization and good repair. Completes general cleaning, organization and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Notifies summer camp director and CFT of needed facility and equipment repairs.
f) Maintains working relationship with CFT.
g) Supervises staff in the care, execution and quality of arts-related programming and the engagement of staff with campers.
h) Submits requests in advance for additional equipment and supplies when needed.
i) Evaluates arts staff based on performance, safety and positive engagement with campers.
9) Participates enthusiastically with other program staff to prepare camp for summer camper arrivals, departures, and special events.
10) Participates enthusiastically in program staff and administrative staff meetings and trainings.
11) Maintains positive relations with guests and other staff. Conveys information on programs and schedules to campers.
12) Attends camp marketing events and other special events as directed and other duties allow.
13) Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
14) Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
15) All other duties as assigned.
