Job Description

Provides assistance for campers that need an extra support system while at camp. Supporting camper situations that surround behaviors, special needs, and diverse learning abilities. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes camper safety and engagement.  Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on youth development including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.

Qualifications

1.    High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.

2.    At least 18 years of age.

3.    Prefer 2 years previous experience working in a camp setting and 1 year of supervisory experience.

4.    CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention trainings.

5.    Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Essential Functions

1)   Supports a group of staff and campers.

2)   Maintains supportive relationship with the staff in all villages.

3)   Supports staff when camper issues arise that cause disruptions to the overall programmatic experience.

4)   Mentors' counselors in unique camper situations and supports them through the process.

5)   Available to staff and camper needs.

6)   Assists in delivering a safe, fun and effective program.

a)   Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedures.

b)   Maintains constant surveillance of the staff and campers in all villages.

c)    Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for activities.

d)   Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

e)   Take immediate action to ensure safety procedures are followed by campers. Follows up with summer camp director to determine long term solutions/actions, provides timely and accurate reports and follow-ups.

7)   Responsible for completing daily tasks related to their respective village.

a)   Works with the team to set-up activity areas prior to summer camp activities. This includes tasks relating to clubs, cluster activities, evening programs, chapel, and cabin-clean up checks.

b)   Participates in the completion of closing procedures following summer camp activities.

c)    Submits requests in advance for additional equipment and supplies when needed.

d)   Evaluates staff as requested, provides feedback, and performs training and behavior modification as instructed.

8)   Participates enthusiastically with other program staff to prepare camp for summer camper arrivals, departures, and special events.

9)   Participates enthusiastically in program meetings and trainings.

10) Maintains positive relations with guests and other staff. Conveys information on programs and schedules to campers.

11) Attends camp marketing events and other special events as directed and other duties allow.

12) Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.

13)  Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.

14) All other duties assigned.
