We are seeking a dynamic and visionary financial leader to serve as the lead fiscal architect for the YMCA of Greater Richmond. The CFO will work alongside a passionate team, helping to shape the future of our programs and services while ensuring the utmost integrity in financial stewardship. This role is more than just numbers; it’s about creating a lasting impact by aligning financial resources with our mission. 

The YMCA of Greater Richmond is a $56 million nonprofit organization operating in 18 branch locations and 30 community-based childcare centers. The YMCA is a respected member of the diverse fabric of the Richmond region, serving over 200,000 individuals in 2024.

As the CFO of the YMCA, you will:

·       Be the Lead Fiscal Architect – Drive the strategic financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes. You’ll ensure that our financial strategies align with our mission and empower the YMCA to grow and evolve.

·       Collaborate with Key Stakeholders – Build strong relationships with key volunteer leaders, including the Fiscal Management Committee, Audit, Risk, and Legal Committee, and the Investment Committee. You will provide expert guidance to these groups and foster a collaborative environment where financial decisions are made with wisdom and foresight.

·       Ensure Financial Accountability and Transparency – Lead the development of comprehensive financial policies and ensure adherence to best practices in financial management, audit readiness, and risk mitigation. You will be responsible for maintaining the YMCA’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability.

·       Oversee Financial Operations– Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, treasury, audit preparation, risk, and investment management. You will champion efficiency, accuracy, and compliance, ensuring the organization operates at its highest potential.

·       Support the Mission – In everything you do, you will contribute to the YMCA’s mission of strengthening communities. Your financial leadership will enable us to expand our reach, deepen our impact, and continue to serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity for all.

What We’re Looking For:

·       A strategic financial leader with a proven track record of leading large-scale financial operations. 

·       Experience working with volunteer leadership, non-profit boards/committees, including fiscal management, audit, risk, legal, and investment committees.

·       A passion for the YMCA’s mission of empowering individuals and building stronger, more inclusive communities.

·       Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and compelling manner.

·       An innovative and tech-savvy leader, with proficiency in financial software platforms as well as designing/implementing automation for maximum efficiency.

Qualifications

The successful CFO will be a passionate leader who is a strategic contributor in a team environment. The ability to set priorities and manage multiple concurrent tasks is essential, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, continually evolving environment. The chosen candidate will be skilled at team building, staff leadership, and providing support and guidance to branch staff in a multi-location environment. Must be able to lead and contribute in a team environment, manage change, and embody long-term perspectives.  Excellent oral and written communication, presentation skills, analytical and financial abilities, organizational, problem-solving, negotiation, and computer skills are necessary. The successful candidate will have experience working in a multi-location environment and the ability to oversee and manage centralized as well as decentralized accounting, financial, and risk functions.

A college degree is required in accounting/finance or related area and an advanced degree in finance or MBA preferred. A minimum ten years of direct accounting/finance experience are required.  Senior financial leadership experience with multi -division/location entity with revenues over $40 M is preferred.  Non-profit and/or YMCA experience desirable, but not required.
