Junior Accountant

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Junior Accountant to join our team!
Job Description

As a Junior Accountant, you will be responsible for processing Account Payable activities and subsidiary ledgers, entering invoices with proper account codes and due dates. If hired, you will act as liaison with revenue accounting ensuring Salesforce entries and grant management are maintained on a backup basis. 

Wage: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on qualifications

Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week

Location: YMCA Association Office, Tacoma, WA

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Proficient with ERP system (Business Central preferred), Adaptive and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Ability to communicate with individuals who may be unhappy with the current service level and astute at solving the problems in the future.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills especially Excel at an expert level
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize work effectively
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve issues with vendors, suppliers and banking relationships

  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).

  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
Essential Functions
  • Process payable invoices for the Association daily with proper approval and coding. Assist with credit card statements. Act as a liaison for vendors to reconcile any billing discrepancies.  Maintain vendor files with correct payment terms and information. Review branch invoices approved for payment for proper G/L code and accuracy of amounts to be entered including use tax and available cash discounts.
  • Assist with education of vendors on virtual credit card, checks and ACH payment process to maintain a paperless payment process.
  • Work independently needing minimal daily supervision both remotely and in the shared office.
  • Collaborate in the maintenance of the sales and use tax procedures as well as related spreadsheets. 
  • Provide various reports that will inform and assist branch and Association Office staff as requested.
  • Complete special projects in timely and accurate fashion as assigned.
  • Cross train on daily posting of Salesforce activity
  • Train on Grant Management processes, assist Revenue Accountant in managing documentation.
  • Assist with revenue and refund entries.
  • Basic accounts receivable knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story to vendors, supporting branch employees, and assist Financial Development department to fulfill our mission.
