Early Childhood Director

The Southington Community YMCA seeks an inspiring and dedicated leader to guide our exceptional team of early childhood professionals.  
Job Description

The Early Childhood Director will work to develop a program that nurtures children's growth and development, creating an inclusive environment where children are supported socially, emotionally and cognitively.  The Early Childhood Program serves 200 preschool children and families.  The Director supervises 35 part-time staff and 25 full-time staff including 2 full-time administrative staff.  

Qualifications
  • Minimum of a 4-year college degree in a related area of study
  • Possess, or be able to obtain, Head Teacher and Director certification from the CT Office of Early Childhood
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, state licensure requirements and processes
  • A background and familiarity with youth development programming
  • Excellent communication, presentation skills, and customer service skills
  • A minimum of 3 years supervisory and management experience
  • Possess, or in pursuit of, YMCA Team Leader certification
  • Possess, or in pursuit of, First Aid and CPR certifications

 

Essential Functions

Duties and Responsibilities:

Child Care Department

  • Hires, trains, evaluates, schedules, and supervises staff and volunteers for the Southington Early Childhood Department
  • Promotes an enthusiastic, outgoing, professional, and proactive service-oriented environment
  • Ensures all policies and procedures are followed, including state licenses, child abuse prevention, child development, risk policies, data entry, dress code, registration, and financial controls
  • Review all childcare policies and procedures yearly and works with relevant volunteer committees to recommend policy changes as necessary
  • Update, develop and implement new procedures as necessary
  • Assesses child care needs within the community and seeks to address those needs whenever possible
  • Ensures that all Individual Care Plans are maintained and fulfilled
  • Directly observes all classroom locations regularly and provides coaching and feedback whenever necessary        

Administrative

  • Fosters a team environment by building communication, trust, and cooperation among early childhood staff at all levels
  • Creates and acts as staff liaison to a Parents’ Quality Committee
  • Ensure program registration procedures are efficient and all records are accurate
  • Works with supervisor to create the annual budget and maintain the annual actual income and expenses to meet projected targets
  • Supervises two full-time administrative staff including a Child Care Administrator and an Assistant Early Childhood Director       

Other

  • Assists with strategic plans as assigned
  • Attends and participates in required YMCA events, as assigned
  • Participates in the Association Early Childhood Quality Cabinet
  • Participates in fundraising efforts and works with the Development Director
  • Participates in Director-On-Duty weekend coverage, as assigned
  • Responds to emergencies
  • Performs all miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Implement Risk Management Policies through training, evaluation and record-keeping
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures related to child abuse prevention
