The School Age Child Care Director is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the management, development, supervision, evaluation and growth of the program, exercising sound judgment, problem solving and decision making authority including (but not limited to) budget, fundraising, policies, procedures, staff supervision, recruitment and training, and day-to-day operations of program. In addition, will have direct supervision of summer day camp/s. Serve as liaison to committee(s) as needed.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Human Services, Social Services, Recreation, Business or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated success in School Age Child Care Practices and quality program development.
  • Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Minimum of three years managerial experience working with school age program, children and parents.
  • Knowledge of state licensing accreditation requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience with budget management. Fundraising experience a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Strong computer skills including all standard MS Office Software and equipment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate in various venues, i.e., public speaking, presentations, etc.
  • Ability to direct multi-site programs through effective supervision of staff, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of developing authentic and deepened professional relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred, or obtained within 36 months of hire.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Required to travel between sites as needed.
Essential Functions
  • Develop and manage the operating plan to promote program and grow participation within local school district (s) or at offsite locations ensuring a safe, educational, social and nurturing environment.
  • Develop and manage department budget related to the position.
  • Provide leadership and exercise sound judgment in resolving issues with parents, school teachers, and administrators. Consults with management on issues when necessary.
  • Oversee and manage the licensing requirements assuring compliance with State and local regulations and accreditation standards. Ensure program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct assigned staff and volunteers for School Age Child Care program and Summer Day camp. Review and evaluate performance. Conduct regular staff meetings and trainings.
  • Conduct regular site observations, assuring program quality and safety standards are met. Provide timely written reports to Associate Executive Director to include current state, identification of issues and trends. Analyze trends based on surveys of parents, students, principals and staff feedback.
  • Recommend and implement improvement plans as needed ensuring high-quality member-focused programs through innovative program development and ongoing staff development.
  • Oversee the management of sites and site supervisors, ensuring risk management guidelines are continually maintained according to the mission of the programs.
  • Support and implement approved programs for all sites, in addition to adopting other signature programs or enhancements of programs as needed and assigned.
  • Collaborate with Associate Executive Director and management with review of curriculum development and enhancements where necessary.
  • Facilitate communication and provide leadership. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Provide leadership and support to all fund-raising events, and other Y Community special events.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community partners; i.e., school administrators, CBO’s (community-based organizations), town officials and other entities in an effort to enhance programming and visibility of programs.
  • Manage and maintain data and reports as required for assigned programs.
  • Responsible for administrative duties for effective program.
  • Actively lead and participate in summer camp programs.
  • Implement administrative duties as related to management of program, i.e., payroll, performance appraisals, etc. Provide data and reports as required for assigned programs.

Required Certifications
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required.
