The Oshkosh YMCA 20th Avenue is a 160,000 square foot facility that includes an indoor ice arena, indoor soccer arena, double gymnasium with track, childcare, health and wellness center, multiple group exercise studios and multi-purpose rooms. The aquatics facility includes a zero-depth entry family pool with a water slide and 8 lane lap pool. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Childcare Director at the Oshkosh Community YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing safe, high-quality, member-focused childcare programs. The ideal candidate is passionate about children and possesses a warm and caring demeanor.
1. Bachelor's degree in related field(preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. YMCA Leader certification (or equivalent) Candidates without this certification may complete within the first year of employment.
3. Minimum of two years related childcare experience required, preferably experience supervising others or in an administrative capacity.
4. Ability to relate & communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
5. Must have strong organizational skills.
6. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
1. In partnership with the Director of Children and Family Services ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed.
2. Provides daily supervision and administration of on-site childcare serving children 6 weeks – 6 years of age.
3. Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success. Conducts trainings as needed. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
4. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
5. Maintains regular, clear, professional, and concise communication.
6. Manages the center, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
7. Develops & maintains collaborations with internal and external stakeholders to deliver programs and foster new program opportunities.
