At the Darien Y, we have a top-notch gymnastics team/program, and we need your experience and expertise to help us continue our devotion to having one of the best programs in the area.

As the Optional coach you will be guiding gymnasts of all levels in the proper techniques and disciplines of the sport while promoting a fun and welcoming environment. The coach also ensures athletes’ safety and adherence to USA Gymnastics and Darien Y policies and procedures.

The Developmental/Optional coach is a dynamic individual who comes to work with a smile and genuinely enjoys working with athletes, parents, members, and staff. From the gymnastics arena, you will bring your superior knowledge, skills, and leadership to effectively communicate with and guide athletes in proper gymnastics techniques. As a dedicated coach, you ensure a safe and enthusiastic sporting environment in which your team will thrive.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years coaching experience preferred. Strong gymnastic background competing and/or coaching at competitive levels.
  • Strong background in Bars and Vault coaching is a must.
  • Comprehensive understanding of gymnastics fundamentals, concepts, progressions, and practice organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, and positive team-building motivational skills.
  • Ability to travel, work extended hours, evenings, and weekends as Developmental and optional teams’ schedules demand.
  • Positive teaching methodology leading to the creation of a motivating, healthy, and productive training environment.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment, and to lift, assist and spot children more than 50 pounds using proper spotting techniques.

 

Essential Functions
  • Assesses all athletes and assigns with the head coach the proper USA Gymnastics Levels.
  • Instruct assigned classes, pre-team, and developmental team. Attend all travel team competitions.
  • Trains each athlete according to their limitations and/or or potential.
  • Spots a variety of gymnastics skills. Lifts/spots up to 150lbs. (mats and athletes).
  • Serve as a positive role model to gymnasts, parents, officials, and staff by following all rules, and demonstrating superior sportsmanship.
  • Schedules, conducts, and participates in training clinics with gymnastics staff.
  • Builds effective relationships and communication with participants and their parents.
  • Continue to uphold the tradition and success of the Darien Y Gymnastics Program, by maintaining the highest quality and standards possible.

 

Required Certifications
  • Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid. CDC Concussion Prevention Training. Safe Sport.
