Job Description

The Oshkosh YMCA 20th Avenue is a 160,000 square foot facility that includes an indoor ice arena, indoor soccer arena, double gymnasium with track, childcare, health and wellness center, multiple group exercise studios and multi-purpose rooms. The aquatics facility includes a zero-depth entry family pool with a water slide and 8 lane lap pool. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Qualifications

1.  Minimum of two years lifeguard experience.

2.  Minimum of one year of swim instructor experience.

3.  One to two years’ experience of aquatic related experience such as a Head Guard, Aquatic Coordinator, Supervisor, or Manager is preferred.

4.  Must be at least 21 years of age.

5.  Current Lifeguard & Swim Instructor Certification (YMCA of the USA or American Red Cross). Instructor or Instructor Trainer level certifications preferred.

6.  Ability to relate & communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

7.  Must have strong organizational skills.

8.  Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Essential Functions

1.  Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include assistance in supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

2.  Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

3.  Assists with recruiting and hiring diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Assists with onboards and develops them for success. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.

4.  Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

5.  Maintains regular, clear, professional, and concise communication.
