Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Center Executive Directors and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Sports Director – Georgetown County will oversee the management and operation of Youth and Adult Sports programming for three Georgetown County YMCA’s (Tidelands Georgetown, Tidelands Pawleys Island, and Andrews). The Sports Direct will also be responsible for expanding our service area to surrounding communities, specifically Williamsburg County.

Qualifications
  •  Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sport Management, Exercise Science, Health, or equivalent.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Two or more years of related field experience with comparable program growth.
  • Two years of demonstrated experience training and development experience training and development of volunteers and staff.
  • Computer literacy including knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, and database management.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Fun, creative and imaginative mind is desired to continue the program growth trajectory.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.

Essential Functions

The incumbent must have the competencies, skills and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out the association’s mission, goals, and visions for serving the community. Other important competencies of the Sports Director include:

  • Ensure high quality community-driven sports programs through innovative program development, evaluation, and ongoing training of staff and volunteers.
  • Facilitate the organization, management and operation of high-quality sports programs and establish new program throughout Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties.
  • Champion a culture of best-in-class sports program quality and experience in all assigned areas, including on- and off-site programs, community partnerships and family events.
  • Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to sports program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensure that YMCA sports programming aligns with all state, local, and YMCA quality standards.
  • Develops safety plans for sports programming sites and ensure all safety standards are followed by site team members.
  • Partner with the marketing department to ensure effective promotion and visibility of all program areas.
  • Monitors and evaluates the success and effectiveness of sports programming through measured statistical data.
  • Provide support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
  • Manages annual budget for each sports department at each center location within Georgetown County.
  • Ensure a culture of inclusion that builds and celebrates diversity within the Y and our communities.
  • Meet and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual goals including registration levels, year-over-year retention, penetration rates and participant progression.
  • Recruit, hire, train, engage, and retain a team of staff, referees, and volunteers. Provides direct hands on trainings for staff and coaches.
  • Review and evaluate staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals, foster staff engagement and development.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the YMCA of Coastal Carolina’s strategic plan and Vision 2030 priorities.
