Job Description

 

The Controller plays a pivotal role in leading and overseeing financial operations and ensuring compliance within our dynamic and growing non-profit organization. Reporting directly to the VP/Chief Financial Officer, you will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, strategic financial analysis, and team management to support our association. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, finance or related field required.
  • CPA or CMA with strong working knowledge of all accounting functions and bank products required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including at least 5 years in a Controller role and 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role. 
  • Strong technical accounting skills, proficiency in financial software, and advanced Excel capabilities. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting standards. Familiarity with non-profit accounting and compliance requirements.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills while maintaining keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish a rapport with vendors, staff, and volunteers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse teams.

  • Must be able to work in person and a hybrid capacity.
  • Must be able to pass Background, Reference, and Employment Credit Checks (in accordance with WA State Fair Chance Act). 

 

Essential Functions

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Plan and direct all fiscal accounting functions and day-to-day financial operations and reconciliations.  
  • Assist the CFO in budgeting and forecasting investment income and expenses including interests, bond fees, and debt and bank service charges. 
  • Establish, train, monitor, and enforce finance policies and procedures.
  • Review and file annual, quarterly, or monthly tax reports and payments in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain grant reporting to meet Federal Expenditures requirements under SEFA in compliance with the regulations and the Super Circular Uniform Guidance.
  • Manage external audits with strict adherence to deadlines to deliver accurate and timely audit reports. 
  • Ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with GAAP and YMCA policies and procedures in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Hire, lead, and mentor finance staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Provide regular feedback, training, and professional development opportunities to finance staff.
  • Ensure the finance team has the necessary tools and resources to perform their duties effectively.
