Membership Director

YMCA Buffalo Niagara is looking for an enthusiastic individual to head our membership department at the William-Emslie YMCA.
Job Description

Directs all aspects of membership, manages the child watch department, and directs family programming.  Recruits new members and retains existing members. Hires, trains, and supervises staff.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  2. One to two years of related experience, preferably in a sales and marketing environment.
  3. Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  4. Ability to direct assigned operations supervise a staff team.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  7. Ability to use analytical, interpretative, and evaluative thought in making decisions and solving problems.
  8. Experience working with diverse populations.
Essential Functions
  1. Implements membership strategies that promote recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Identifies and resolves problem areas to ensure member satisfaction.
  2. Develops, manages, and controls budgets related to the position. Exercises necessary controls to ensure operations are carried out and a balanced fiscal operation exists.
  3. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs employees and volunteers for the assigned departments. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures that welcome center and program staff are informed and able to communicate information to members and guests.
  4. Manages child watch operations and family programming. Implements procedures to provide for the safety and security of the children in Child Watch. Organizes and coordinates family events to support membership.
  5. Conducts YMCA membership training sessions and facilitates department staff meetings.
  6. Promotes program enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Implements marketing efforts to maximize program enrollments and provides support to program directors on related issues.
  7. Organizes and implements special events for membership.
  8. Implements marketing strategies to promote membership. Follows all Association marketing and communications guidelines.
  9. Provides staff leadership for the Annual Campaign and assigned committees.
  10. Develops effective working relationships with service groups, community organizations and businesses in the service area. Makes presentations to promote membership and projects a positive image of the YMCA to the community.
  11. Provides for the cleanliness of the welcome center and program spaces, upkeep of equipment, and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies.
  12. Monitors, implements, and enforces department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces, and ensures PPE compliance.
  13. Maintains member records and department files.
  14. Implements survey collection procedures.  Evaluates membership practices and responds to customer feedback.
  15. Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.
