Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Program Manager is to provide leadership to and the supervision of Specialty Programs and Group Retreats (SPGR).  While serving as the Director of SPGR, the Program Manager will have other peripheral duties which include working with the executive director to market and promote all programs and manage social media.  The incumbent must be well organized, outgoing, service oriented, have excellent communication skills, and be capable of representing experience in leadership roles with youth, teens, and adults.  The SPGR Program Manager must demonstrate a commitment to the YMCA’s mission, be able to implement this mission through all Storer Camps programs, and interpret this mission and purpose to our guests and staff.

 

Qualifications

The incumbent must possess outstanding planning and preparation skills, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills, in order to relate to the entire camp community and to achieve the desired results on multiple simultaneous projects.  Superior communication, interpersonal relationship skills, writing, and verbal skills are essential.  

This position requires a minimum 2 years experience in Camping, Recreation, Group Programming or a related field.

 

Essential Functions

General Functions:

●  Plan for and host external and internal groups who are utilizing camp primarily on weekends and Outdoor Education shoulder seasons.
  Plan in a manner that allows other staff to successfully host external and internal groups who are utilizing camp primarily on weekends during the school year.
  Recruit, hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and provide ongoing leadership and support to a team of program staff, based on programming needs.
  Meet and strive to exceed agreed-upon program goals and objectives.
  Assist YMCA Storer Camps in meeting its annual operating budget.
  Increase the amount of groups served annually.
  Work with Marketing to create advertisements for all programs using a variety of mediums and other channels as needed.
  Demonstrate a cheerful, respectful, and caring disposition.
  Accept other duties, as assigned.

Other Responsibilities:

●  Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating of staff.
●  Develop a team of qualified group weekend leaders and staff.
  Coordinate and troubleshoot daily schedules and events.
  Assist with program, curriculum, and staff development.
  Communicate with all camp departments regarding needs and schedules.
  Participate as an active member of the YMCA Storer Camp Leadership Team.
  Assist in all agreements:  billing, evaluations, schedules, meal counts, horse ride information, and correspondence with contracted groups.
  Provide and maintain a safe, high-quality program that follows all standards and guidelines for corresponding areas.
  Monitor and maintain the camp facility for safety and cleanliness.
  Maintain safe, high-quality state licensed and ACA accredited programs for all OEE/SPGR and Summer groups.
  Act as a campaigner in the annual campaign.
  To be available to assist and direct with all program activities throughout all seasons (i.e. Outdoor Education).
  Be committed to high customer service.  (i.e. Good interaction with campers, students, staff, and teachers).
  Lead staff training sessions.
  A hands on style of leadership (i.e. Teaching, leading, and participating in programs as needed.)
