The Manager, Content and Communication is responsible for developing content to help YMCAs and Y employees nationwide understand the value and uniqueness of the YMCA Retirement Fund benefit. This position will also be responsible for ensuring that information is effectively communicated across our various channels. This is not your average marketing role! Y Retirement exists to serve YMCAs and Y employees only, so we aren’t driven by leads or impressions. Success is achieved by an increased understanding of the benefit among our constituents.



The Manager, Content and Communication will have various prerequisite skills and qualifications to handle their job duties effectively, including:

  • 5+ years of experience in communications and marketing 
  • 3+ years of financial services experience is a plus
  • A creative and design-focused mind!
  • The ability to work independently and solve challenges swiftly
  • Advanced writing and editing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of WordPress and Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign)
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Marketing Cloud (or experience working with a similar email marketing tool)
  • Familiarity with social media best practices
  • Experience or a strong desire to learn more about HTML and SEO
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail


Essential Functions
  • Incorporating established key messages and keywords into all content developed and published; identifying ways to tailor content appropriately for Y Retirement’s various audiences
  • Working with the Director of Education and Communication to develop a content calendar and executing against it throughout the year
  • Being the lead on all email communication – from writing and creation, to list-development and distribution via Marketing Cloud, to reporting (email is our main vehicle to reach people!)
  • First-draft writing of education and communication pieces for the organization as identified by the Director of Education and Communication
  • Researching and sourcing relevant content for the Y Retirement website or various educational content pieces; contributing to website content edits and page creation
  • Working closely with the Y Relations team to deliver updated or new materials to help in their in-person and virtual education efforts
  • Identifying opportunities to repurpose existing content to fit a new channel – e.g. video, social media, web article, eLearning resource – and seeing it through to execution
  • Regularly auditing existing content across key channels to ensure it is current and accurate
  • Supporting the Director of Education and Communication on various constituent feedback initiatives including topic-driven pulse surveys and regularly scheduled engagement surveys
  • Working closely with the Creative Manager to update various publications across the organization – e.g. forms, mail pieces, etc. – as requested to ensure message and brand compliance 
  • Participating in cross-department projects as appropriate
