Job Description

The YMCA Alexandria is currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team as the School Age & Summer Camp Program Director. Our ideal candidate is able to maintainhigh expectations while also ensuring a fun, and positive environment daily!  The School Age and Summer Camp Program Director oversees the overall operation of the School Age/Summer Camp program site(s), including curriculum development and delivery, and health and safety of the children. 

  1. Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, Elementary Education, Child Development, Recreation, Human Services, etc. 
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience working primarily with preschoolers in a licensed childcare center. 
  3. Strong leadership, organizational, and administrative skills.  Must have a solid grasp of budget development, income production, and expense control. 
  4. Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents and committed to working within a diverse population. 
Essential Functions
  1. The Program Director will manage the daily operations of the afterschool sites during the school year and the day camp programs during the summer. 
  2. Establishes relationships with individual children and families and being responsive to their needs. 
  3. Ensure all children receive enriching educational programming with a focus on positive experiences and child outcomes. 
  4. Provides assistance to staff in developing the curriculum that is fortified with meaningful experiences while meeting the needs and interests of the group and individual child. 
  5. Interview and hire qualified staff. Supervise and provide appropriate orientation and training for staff support and career development.
