Job Description

The Director of Philanthropy will assist in the work that the YMCA of Greater Brandywine is recognized as a leading non-profit committed to mission and to meeting community needs that make a significant impact to build community throughout Chester County.  Under the direction of the VP of Philanthropy, the Director of Philanthropy will assist with the successful execution of an ambitious fundraising strategy. As a member of the Philanthropy Department team, the incumbent is responsible for assisting in philanthropy to support the overall mission and strategic direction of the organization. The Director will support the development and implementation of policies, plans, and programs in the areas of individual and corporation philanthropy, including major gifts, endowed and planned gifts, annual giving, foundation and corporate giving, and donor relations. The incumbent supports the effective coordination of fundraising efforts at the organizational and local YMCA level (branches/program locations); working with the VP of Philanthropy, Branch Board of Directors, Senior Leadership team, Executive Directors, and other volunteers to achieve fundraising targets. The Director of Philanthropy effectively mobilize to support positive relations with the community; assist in optimizing revenue from fundraising activities; and help support the creation and help manage information management systems and infrastructure to maximize the donor experience.

Qualifications
  • You have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible and successful experience in fundraising and development.
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) is highly preferred, but not required.
  • Experience and success in developing and leading a comprehensive philanthropy program including major and planned gifts, annual giving, and foundation, corporate, and institutional support is required
  • Track record of success in raising a minimum of $1 million in contributed funds annually and working effectively with diverse partners and stakeholders.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of fund-raising technology and software support and demonstrated ability to select, implement, and effectively manage the technology.
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills; possess a passion for the work of the YMCA, ability to foster great relationships and able to maintain a culture of stewardship excellence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the financial development environment and best practices.
  • Exceptional capacity for managing and leading people; ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups and capacity to ensure accountability.
  • Ability to plan large public events working with branch, Association office and volunteers.
  • Ability to maintain collaborations with community organizations. 
Essential Functions

  • Assist in the implementation of a quantifiable and measurable fundraising strategy to achieve the organization’s financial and brand goals
  • Work with the VP of Philanthropy, President & CEO, branches and volunteers to solicit and secure principal gifts from individual, government, corporate, and foundation donors.
  • Support the overall workflow for meeting the annual campaign goals for YGBW.  This includes, but is not limited to, annual calendars, supervision of Raiser’s Edge software and resources, working directly with the Executive Directors, branches, other key internal leaders and ensuring timelines are met.
  • Assist in execution of Association-wide special events including Golf outings, Annual Campaign Kick-Off Events, and other major events as needed. This includes the overall planning, engaging teams and generating sponsorships.
  • Ensure and direct a support role to assist all branches in meeting their Philanthropy goals to include special event management such as sponsorships, participant database, assist in development of marketing materials, vendor coordination, script writing, awards and event-day management. 
  • Assist with the development, implementation and support of the annual campaign and capital campaigns to generate needed resources for YGBW working directly with the branches and volunteers to meet branch goals and maximize opportunities.
  • Support the special event, grant development, planned gift and endowment programs as required.
  • Support key relationships both internal and external with community leaders and organizations.
  • Assist in social media and online messaging efforts developed in conjunction with the marketing department to advance fundraising.
  • Support direct mail campaigns with the marketing department for print, email and social media.
  • Assist with the informational processes to support long term fundraising working with the Finance and IT teams.
  • Support the training and mentor fundraising to build a high-capacity and effective fundraising association.
  • Assist to work with key volunteers that is both successful and fosters great relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Serve as an inspirational leader for staff; promote a culture of strong integrity, high performance, meaningful collaboration, and continuous improvement that values commitment to equity, learning, diversity, inclusion, and quality.
