Job Description

Working closely with the Executive Director of YMCA Camp Pendalouan and Muskegon CEO,  the Day Camp Director will launch the Muskegon YMCA Day Camp Program in its first year. The 10 week program takes place in a local park facility in partnership with Muskegon Parks and Recreation.  Prior to the camp season the Director will hire staff, work with licensing, register campers, market programs and other administrative duties. During camp, the Day Camp Director is responsible for the day to day operations of the Muskegon YMCA Day Camp.  This includes but is not limited to daily check in and out, program design and implementation, child safety management, staff training and supervision and field trip management and planning.  

Qualifications
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or 4 years equivalent experience.
  • Ability to plan, initiate and lead small and large group activities
  • Must possess a cooperative spirit and be committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to campers, staff, and program participants.
  • Must have a sincere and genuine interest in working with youth and relate well to all age levels and backgrounds.
  • Prior experience with youth or family programming
  • Certifications: CPR, First Aid & AED
  • YMCA lifeguard certified preferred (not required)
Essential Functions
  • Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program(s) within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in the program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.
  • Supervise groups of children and provide a safe environment for children
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Dedication to job, camp participants, and the YMCA cause.
  • Adheres to program standards, including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends staff meetings and training.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
