Job Description

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Senior Program Director is responsible for the implementation and development of, but not limited to, Summer Overnight and Day Camp programs and Year-Round programming. This position requires a remarkable passion for the camp. Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the planning and execution of a comprehensive communications plan throughout the year, aimed at growing relationships with campers, parents, staff, and program participants. 
  • Developing and implementing effective marketing strategies on an ongoing basis.
  • Recruiting, coaching, and developing an outstanding team of staff members for both the summer and year-round programs. Implementing creative and responsive programs that meet the needs of the campers and participants. 

Success in this role requires demonstrated experience in leading and motivating teams of staff to achieve results.

  • Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting (i.e. climbing, aggressive behavior).
  • Ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations (i.e. crying upset child, upset parent, or upset staff).
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to adjust to change.
  • Ability to develop and foster cooperative relationships.
  • Ability to use hands, fingers, and arms as well as be able to speak and hear.
  • Should have good physical and mental health, and have the energy and emotional stability necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of their positions.
Essential Functions
  1. Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop staff members to deliver high-quality innovative programs and services.
  2. Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance exceeding customer expectations every day, which includes building and maintaining healthy professional relationships with summer camp families, staff, and the local community
  3. Responsible for the creation, communication, marketing, and implementation of innovative and progressive programming.
  4. Ensure that all required standards and guidelines set forth by the Department of Health, Office of Early Childhood, and A.C.A. are met.
  5. Oversee the development, adherence to, and monitoring of budgets for all programs for which the position is responsible and exceed enrollment and revenue targets. 
  6. Responsible for hosting associated programs and additional year-round programming.
  7. Serves as a member of the Camp Jewell YMCA Staff Team, assisting with special events, programming, and committees as assigned.
  8. Schedule and organize program staff training and ensure staff are certified in required area. 
  9. Attend all branch and Association meetings as assigned.
  10. Maintain knowledge of association policies and procedures, risk management and safety practices and applicable laws.
  11. Serve on branch and Association committees and contribute to training and special events as required.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
