Development Coordinator

The Duluth Area Family YMCA is searching for an Development coordinator to join our growing team in the beautiful city of Duluth, MN! 
Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Development Coordinator at the Duluth Area Family YMCA stewards the Y’s cause, promoting and protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive organization within the community. The Development Coordinator will plan and implement a development and fundraising program to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the Duluth Area Family YMCA.  The Development Coordinator will work hand-in-hand with Branch Executives to develop annual branch development plans (including stewardship and fundraising events and activities) and will design and implement the Association’s annual development plan and calendar.

Required Education and Experience 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software 
  • Bachelor's degree in related field and/or equivalent experience 
  • At least two years of related experience required

Must be able to pass a background check. 

Essential Functions
  • Researches potential funders, (e.g., foundations, corporations) and builds strong, strategic relationships with current and prospective partners inside and outside the Y 
  • Writes grants and proposals to funders/foundations as needed 
  • Develops plans for staff and board member engagement and donation 
  • Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, community leaders)  
  • Maintains an efficient and effective tracking and reporting system that supports the financial development efforts of the Y 
  • Reports the sources, uses, and management of donated funds to constituents in order to preserve and enhance confidence in the organization.
  • Manages and implements an organized system of communications internally and externally to provide stewardship to donors and the management and monitoring of the funders’ requirements for recognition 
  • Assists with branch annual campaign plans and an Association annual campaign plan 
  • Assists with any Association capital plans 
  • Creates vehicles and collateral for ongoing donor appreciation and stewardship
  • Assists with annual community and Y-sponsored events 
  • Fosters an inclusive environment appreciative of differences in the workplace. Meaningfully participate in and lead efforts to support the Y’s commitment to equity and diversity.
