Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Senior Program Director at Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA oversees the development and operation of various programs and designs practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management. This position oversees the direction and vision of Early Learning, Youth Development, Teen Leadership/Development, and Family Programming. Creating an environment of curiosity, confidence, and support where youth can learn, grow, and thrive.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in human services, nonprofit, recreation, early learning, childcare, education, or business is required.
- Master’s degree in education, business, or a related field is preferred.
- YMCA Team Leader is required and Multi-Team Leader certification is preferred.
- Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
- Ability to direct assigned operations including volunteer development, supervision of staff, development, and monitoring of budgets, marketing, and public relations, and program development.
- Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- CPR and First Aid certifications are required within 30 days of hire.
Essential Functions
- Assigned areas include Early Learning (childcare), Preschool, Before and After School, Summer Day Camp (school-age programs), Teen Leadership programming, and Family Programs.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs diverse staff and volunteers. Holds others accountable for equitable staff hiring, promotion, and development. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Guides others on how to strengthen knowledge, skills, and competencies that improve organizational performance.
- Develops and directs the departmental budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. Ensures operating budgets meet or exceed targets. Recommends adjustments to the department budgets to ensure balanced operation and submits reports on current operations.
- Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate; ensures that YMCA program standards are met, and safety procedures followed.
- Review program plans and records to ensure consistency with evidence-based best practices.
- Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y’s impact on all stakeholders (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, community leaders) and develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
- Compiles program statistics and uses data to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation within each program.
- Ensures high-quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, demonstrating courageous and intelligent risk-taking with awareness of societal, economic, and political issues and their impact on the strategic direction of the organization.

- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions; develops and maintains collaborative relations with staff, parents and caregivers, and community organizations (e.g., state childcare licensing agency, school administration) to maximize program impact and drive overall outcomes; maintains regular, clear, and concise communication with area or responsibility.

- Responds to all inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
