Job Description

As a Cause-Driven leader, the Senior Executive Director of Healthy Living is responsible for the execution of the Association's Strategic Plan as it relates to fitness, wellness and community health. This position provides operational leadership and oversight for all Y healthy living initiatives including Y family center fitness floor operations, group exercise, personal training, nutrition, and chronic disease prevention. This position provides strategic and thought leadership by leveraging technical expertise to steer programmatic development, associate training, space utilization and equipment selection. Additionally, the Senior Executive Director is responsible for implementing the Y’s Health Equity Strategy and stewarding partnerships with hospitals, universities, healthcare providers, foundations, and the business community.   

The Senior Executive Director leads the team of Regional Fitness Directors who have direct responsibility for fitness operations within Y Family Centers (fitness floors; personal training; group exercise services including indoor, outdoor, water fitness, and virtual programs). This position provides inspirational leadership that relentlessly provides a consistent superior member experience yielding high member retention.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in the Health and well-being field.

  • Nationally recognized certification (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NETA, CHES, CHW or equivalent) in Personal Training, Group Exercise, Health Education, and/or Community Health

EXPERIENCE

  • Five or more years of management experience with a strong commitment to the Y philosophy and values and significant experience in nutrition and exercise programs. 

  • Experience in member service & engagement and quality management.

  • Multi-site management experience required.

SKILLS 

  • Extensive knowledge of group exercise and the fitness industry.

Essential Functions

  • Oversight of Scheduling 

    • Utilization of participation data to analyze trends and gaps with solution-driven execution for general and seasonal schedule revisions

    • Applies programming strategies to positively affect member retention

    • Expansion of overall Group Exercise services

    • Calculated and systematic new class and/or genre implementation

    • Quarterly Launch planning

    • Personal Training and Small Group Training client schedules

    • Fitness floor associate schedules

    • Managing and facilitating substitute protocol

  • Instructor Training Compliance and Quality Control

    • Compliance with certification, CPR/1st Aid requirements, and standards of delivery

    • Bi-quarterly evaluations, instructor feedback/coaching

    • Performance management/reviews

    • Educational in-services and annual rally for instructors/trainers

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Monthly/bi-monthly feedback loop with Executive Directors/Operations Directors for space utilization and member feedback; regional/group, individual as needed

    • Facilitate cross-department education -membership/fitness as needed

    • Social media engagement

  • Community Health & Health Equity

    • Implements and evolves the organization’s healthy living strategy

    • Lead the organization’s health equity strategy, focusing on initiatives that promote health equity within the community

    • Coordinates each region’s community health needs assessment

    • Supervise the Community Health Workers program, ensuring its alignment with the overall health equity goals and community needs. 

  • Strategic Partnerships

    • Cultivate and nurture strategic relationships with organizational and healthy living partners

    • Identify and engage prospective partners to enhance community health initiatives

    • Establish and execute Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with partners

  • Data-Driven Prevention Interventions

    • Leverage data analysis to develop and implement evidence-based prevention interventions

    • Interpret data insights to enhance the effectiveness of community health programs

    • Develop a system for tracking outputs and outcomes data for community health initiatives

  • Other duties as assigned
