Job Description

This position supports the work of the SRYMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Saratoga Regional YMCA is a mid-major YMCA of five branches. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Health and Wellness Director will be responsible for supervising all department staff, managing budgets, and programming for the Branch Wellness department. This position will work in conjunction with CEO, ED’s and fellow Wellness Directors in the association to develop and implement a personal training system that builds and increases personal training and small group training sales and revenue. The Health and Wellness Director will work collaboratively with all branch staff, especially with membership staff, to ensure the successful delivery and achievement of member acquisition, engagement and retention strategies including tours, member spotlights, healthy start, AOA programming, fitness challenges, group exercise, functional training, new programs, offerings and more.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Nationally accredited personal training certification (or must be willing to obtain)
  • 5+ years’ experience implementing and managing high quality and volume health & wellness programs
  • At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory role with skills in recruiting, training and staff development
  • Excellent communication skills and comprehension
  • Budget experience of over $100,000.
  • YMCA experience preferred
Essential Functions
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and direct wellness center staff, and personal trainers
  • Manage on-boarding, performance management, safety/risk management, and job training for all health and wellness staff
  • Work in conjunction with CEO, ED’s and Wellness Directors in the association to develop and implement a personal training system that builds and increases personal training and small group training sales and revenue
  • Anticipate and address member and staff concern to a satisfactory resolution by creating new processes/procedures and programs, re-evaluating and redoing existing processes (as needed)
  • Effectively manage budget
  • Effectively maintain and oversee the cleanliness and sanitizing efforts and expectations put forth by the Saratoga Regional YMCA in regards to cleanliness and safety of the Wellness Center and Functional Fitness Area
  • Actively participate in personal training sessions to build relationships
  • Evaluate personal trainers on a semi-annual basis
  • Oversee Group Fitness for assigned branch
  • Maintain a minimum of 80% NPS score of a wellness programs via a quarterly survey to clientele including but not limited to personal training, and other adult, youth and teen classes offered by the wellness department
  • Promote the buying of all relative fitness equipment while simultaneously unloading/repurposing outdated equipment
  • Maintain and conduct daily safety inspections of all equipment by utilizing wellness staff to routinely inspect all fitness equipment.
  • Manage/Program the Functional Fitness Area
  • Work collaboratively with all branch staff, especially with membership staff, to ensure the successful delivery and achievement of member acquisition, engagement and retention strategies including tours, member spotlights, healthy start, AOA programming, functional training, personal training, fitness challenges, new programs, offerings and more
  • Work in conjunction with Membership Director to implement and increase participation in Healthy Start orientations, eGym orientations, and fit teen certifications.
  • Create a positive environment surrounding wellness floor staff and their engagement with members, other staff and each other
  • Attend all staff meetings and Association meetings, as required
  • Play an active role in monthly Health & Wellness meetings
  • Play an active role in branch/association events
  • All other duties as assigned
