Job Description

The Aquatics Director leads and manages the aquatics team of lifeguards and instructors, the operations of a large indoor pool, and a full calendar of aquatics programming including lessons, teams, and special events. They establish strong rapport with students and their caregivers, and explore the community to develop local relationships and collaborations.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree preferred. In lieu of associate's Degree, High School diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency and 2-3 years of the related work experience.
  • Three (3) years supervisor and/or leadership experience preferred, ideally in an aquatics position, such as head lifeguard, pool supervisor, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of State, Local, and Federal safety regulations.
  • Able to coach and mentor staff with empathy and clarity.
  • Enthusiasm and creativity.
Essential Functions
  • Hire, schedule and mentor all aquatics staff, ensuring current certification and training.
  • Direct and supervise YMCA aquatic programs such as swim lessons, fitness classes, and team practices.
  • Establish new activities and expand community programs.
  • Adhere to all State, Local, Federal, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Create a culture of aquatic safety and ensure proper pool maintenance.
  • Develop and monitor budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and fun special events.
  • Participate in supervisory meetings and serve as Manager on Duty as needed.
  • Compile program statistics to evaluate participation and success.
Required Certifications
  • Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification required.
  • Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire
  • Certified Pool Operator required, preferably before hire or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
