Job Description

YMCA Camp MacLean has been proudly providing camp programming for children, teens, and adults since 1941. Programs available include a resident summer camp, outdoor education, weekend campouts, family programming, and much more. YMCA Camp MacLean is located in beautiful southeast Wisconsin, one mile east of the city of Burlington.  

The Program Director under the supervision of the Director of Camp Programming coordinates and directs the program use of YMCA Camp MacLean with a primary focus on Group Services with supporting director role in resident camp. Ensure the safety and welfare of all campers and guests. Carry out the mission of YMCA Camp MacLean.

Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree plus previous YMCA resident camp and group service leadership experience required
    • Must have experience in leading seasonal camp staff.
    • Proven experience in the area of customer service and youth programming
    • Experience with adventure programming required  (i.e. high ropes, wilderness camping, team challenge course, climbing wall)
    • Must be energetic person committed to the YMCA mission
    • Camp aquatic program experience & lifeguard certification strongly encouraged
    • Candidate must be able and willing to work a flexible schedule that includes nights, holidays and weekends
    • This position requires strong organizational, communication, and supervision skills

  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
Essential Functions
  • Ensure procedures, policies and public relations at all times.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, management, growth and evaluation of all assigned camp programs
  • Serve as resident host to facilitate a quality experience for all campers, including assigned groups (Includes weekends & nights).  Reside on camp property.
  • Maintain positive relationships with all customer bases from the point of contact, scheduling, program development and evaluation.
  • Articulate safety concerns, emergency procedures, risk management issues to staff and customers. Operate programs adhering to all state laws and ACA standards. 
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising part-time and/or seasonal staff that are needed to facilitate camp programs with assigned departments
  • Work closely with the Food Service Manager and Property Manager to coordinate food service and facility needs of the customers. 
  • Act as a team member, working closely and professionally with other staff on all interrelated matters.
  • Responsible for a budget and for achieving revenue goals and for controlling expenses. 
  • Responsible for the marketing of camp programs.  This includes preparation and dissemination of camp literature as well as communicating in person and on the phone to potential campers and rental groups.
  • In partnership with other camp directors, take on duties associated with summer camp preparation (i.e. hiring, marketing, recruiting campers)
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate files and records.
  • Responsible for maintaining the proper use of all camp equipment.
  • Responsible for overseeing adventure/challenge/high ropes activities within programs.
  • Work with the Director of Camp Programming to learn all facets of YMCA camp programming &  operations beyond assigned programs.
  • Reside on Camp premises; housing provided (required)
  • Other duties as assigned
