Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant

Seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant, responsible for routine and non-routine accounting and administrative duties.
Job Description

Under the direction of the VP of Finance, the Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant will be responsible for maintenance of accounts payable, accounts receivable, accounting system updates and administration as appropriate.  This role is responsible for monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, accrued expenses etc.

Role will also require collaboration with Development office (regarding donor contributions, restricted and unrestricted funds) Human Resources (regarding journal entry for payroll and benefits) and with other department Directors to assist, prepare and review annual budget.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance/accounting or related area and/or equivalent experience preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, billing and/or related financial functions
  • Proficient use of Accounting Software and Microsoft Office
  • Effective communication (verbal and written) as it pertains to financial functions
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
  • Experience with non-profit organizations preferred
Essential Functions
  • Assist the Vice President of Finance with all accounting functions, including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, daily receipting, month and year-end closing, annual budget preparation, annual audit preparation, banking and tax functions, and any other financial reporting as necessary. 
  • Work in tandem with the Vice President of Finance on software applications (Daxco). Assist with input of new activities and editing activities in Daxko.
  • General attention to office administration as related to the finance role (ie filing, copying, preparation of correspondence and reports as required, communication within the organization regarding financial matters in general)
  • Work closely and communicate effectively with other YMCA Directors as needed and assist in YMCA activities to ensure their success.
