Job Description

The Development Department Head will provide leadership to countywide annual campaign efforts for the branches within the YMCA of San Diego County.  Providing overall direction, execution and management of financial development, including identification, cultivation and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation donors.  Will lead donor prospect research, coordinate alumni initiatives, and direct annual campaign. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in special events or working with volunteers.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • This position requires the ability to sit, stand and input data on a computer for extended periods of time
  • CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute
Essential Functions
  • Provide leadership and assist with Annual Campaign and additional branch fundraising, such as capital, major gifts, and other development opportunities.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive plan for prospecting and fundraising including prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts.
  • Provide leadership for all YMCA branch fundraising. Serve as the department staff liaison for all departments for any fundraising or member events ensuring support and successful operations.
  • Develop relationships with community members and volunteers to ensure event sponsorship, underwriting, ticket sales, and participation.
  • Responsible for development and execution of a successful annual stewardship plan; ensuring all monthly stewardship targets are met.
  • Serve as the staff liaison in the Teams Division and as staff liaison for all departments for any fundraising or member events ensuring support and successful operations and a positive image for the YMCA.
  • Provide leadership to branches countywide for Annual Campaign Strategy, comprehensive of campaign events, campaign volunteer recruitment, structure development, and goal achievement. 
  • Support executive leaders to ensure year-over-year benchmarks for campaign are met, designing necessary supporting strategies and tactics to ensure campaign goals are met.
  • Assist Executive Leadership team in additional branch fundraising efforts such as capital, major gifts, and other development opportunities.
  • Responsible for securing grants for branch projects and programs.
  • Recruit and retain effective members of special event committees and volunteer meetings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with event supporters, volunteers and donors through effective donor stewardship and communications.
  • Develop and cultivate lead donors in the community through effective networking, communication, marketing and planning.
  • Give leadership and fundraising training to the Board of Management and the overall fundraising support to new board members for Area Branches.
  • Responsible for development and control of departmental budgets. Oversee event budgets and ensure revenue benchmarks of sponsorships, auction, and ticket sales are met. Ensures that all assigned budgets meet year-end outcomes.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing related components of overall branch Strategic Alignment Plan and SEER Action Plans.
  • Represent branches as needed in the community through various groups, organizations, coalitions, etc.
  • Support implementation of branch communications/public relations, annual giving, and branch diversity plans.
  • Effectively collaborate with the Business Center Admin Support team on Annual Support Campaign tasks.
