Job Description

Under the direction of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Senior Vice President of Finance oversees the Associate Vice President of Finance who manages the general finance functions to include AR, AP, Payroll, Grant Management, and financial reporting.  The SVP will be responsible for overseeing the overall management of financial matters and for producing GAAP statements, conducting Annual Audits, managing Investment Accounts, Strategic Initiatives, Grant Management, Financial Software, Budgeting, Reforecasting, Financial Analysis and manages all internal controls. This position provides leadership and develops a team to support the finance and accounting activities of the organization including support to all YMCA branches. Responsible for leading the finance team, developing systems, and ensuring compliance for the organization as it relates to federal, state, and other laws. The Senior Vice President will provide staff leadership to improve and grow the Valley of the Sun YMCA organization.  

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or Equivalent  
    • MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred. 
  • Eight or more years of substantive experience in accounting and financial management.  
  • Knowledge and strong understanding of general business matters required including budget development, financial reporting, taxes, banking, investments, debt management and more.  
  • This position calls for a person of good judgment with broad vision, excellent interpersonal skills, strong organization, verbal, and written communication skills.  
  • Experience with investment, cash and asset management.  
  • Experience working with stakeholders or board members.  
  • Represents Valley of the Sun YMCA on a national level.  
  • Must have a proven track record of strategic thinking, influencing others, and responding to multiple priorities.   
  • Ability to operate with a high level of ethics and integrity and reflect a value system of mentorship, collaboration, and commitment to the Y’s mission.  
  • Will have a successful track record in applying proven practices related to relationship management and program services.  
  • Experience in data collection, analysis, and outcome measurement.   
  • Experience in management and supervision with highly developed organizational skills and ability to motivate and develop staff.   
Essential Functions
  • Provides consultation and leadership for all aspects of the finance and accounting departments for Valley of the Sun YMCA.  
  • Manages and produces association Financial Statements and serves as the primary liaison to the finance committee of the Board of Managers.  
  • Follows all accounting policy and procedures and reports any challenges effectively and timely.   
  • Reviews, improves and updates internal controls for the organization. 
  • Responsible for leading the budget and forecasting process for the organization.  
  • Prepares the Annual tax forms and any related filings or submissions.  
  • Leads vendor process and ensures vendors quotes are received according to association policies and procedures.  
  • Prepares year end audit schedules and reports and manages the audit process with the help of the Association Vice President.  
  • Establish strong relations with bankers, volunteers, investment counselors, attorneys, and other professionals.  
  • Analyzes and develops strategies to improve services and processes. 
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements as it relates to accounting, grants, audits, payroll, and other requirements of the department.    
  • Mentors and trains all accounting staff and trains on compliance and expectations. Sets up processes to ensure compliance.  
  • Prepares strategic vision for department to contribute to the long-term goals of the association.  
  • Develops effective working relationships with all departments within the association and provides quality support and guidance as needed.  
  • Helps to recruit key staff to the work of the Y with an eye toward staff who will further the mission and values in YMCA program delivery. 
  • Supervises the AVP and effectively facilitates a formal annual performance review process and recommends merit changes.
