The YMCA of the Inland Northwest is seeking our next Chief Financial Officer (CFO), in Spokane, Washington!
Job Description
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The CFO oversees and manages financial matters, information systems and risk for the YMCA of the Inland Northwest and its associated entities including Young Men's Christian Association Endowment Fund, Central Y Owner LLC, and others added for the benefit of the association. The CFO provides direction and leadership for the business operations and strategic initiatives. The CFO participates in the development of policies and ensures their implementation and compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or equivalent
- MBA, CPA or CMA preferred.
- Eight or more years of substantive experience in accounting and financial management.
- Knowledge and understanding of general business matters required including budget development, financial reporting, cash management, business taxes, banking, and debt financing instruments.
- Knowledge of computer systems, including experience with system selection, new system implementation and project management. Personal computer skills required.
- Experience with investment management and asset allocation preferred.
- Experience in effectively managing a staff team.
- Previous experience with voluntary/nonprofit organizations preferred.
- Completion of YMCA required trainings
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
Essential Functions
- Manages all staff and oversees the operations of the accounting and finance, information technology, and business office.
- Monitors monthly financial operations, prepares analysis and reports, serves as the primary liaison to the Finance Committee, and gives guidance and specific recommendations to operating staff on issues affecting financial outcome.
- Maintains all necessary accounting reports and records and communicates all transactions to Directors, Corporate Finance Committee, Board of the Association, and related entities on a timely basis.
- Works directly with assigned committee(s) of the Board to report organizational performance, develop policies and monitor their implementation, and meet the related needs of the Board.
- Reviews, improves, updates and/or develops internal control systems for the association and its associated entities, including leading the implementation of vendor processes.
- Prepares or oversees preparation of financial reports and entity tax returns and related filing and submissions to YMCA of the USA, United Way, Office of Insurance Commissioner and any governmental agencies.
- Prepares audit schedules and year end audit reports. Oversees and certifies the annual audits and meets periodically with outside auditors to maintain communications and keep them informed of changes in the Association and its related entities. Ensures that current accounting standards and legal requirements are met.
- Develops computer-generated budget development tools and oversees the planning of the annual operating budgets, including all branch budgets, for the Association and its related entities. Works closely with operations staff to ensure that branch budgets are well-planned, realistic, and prepared in a timely manner.
- Manages the reporting of financial information to financial institutions for compliance and financing requirements, including but not limited to debt, bonds, leases, and other instruments.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with auditors, bankers, investment counselors, attorneys, other professional advisors
- Oversees risk management activities to minimize potential loss to the Association through adequate insurance coverages, monitoring of Association activities, and storage of incident reports in accordance with YMCA policy and legal regulations.
- Participates as a campaigner in the Association's annual support campaign and capital campaigns.
- Leads the implementation of Strategic Plan Initiatives as directed by the CEO and Board and leads efforts to modify or redesign current business models where necessary.
