Aquatics Director

Make a splash at the Community YMCA!  We are seeking a highly motivated, driven, and organized leader for our Aquatics department.
Job Description

Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Provides management and direct leadership, administration and supervision of Aquatics (branch and extension site).  Manages, schedules and leads aquatic staff including lifeguards, aquatic instructors and aqua fitness instructors. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  1. Certifications: Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED, and First Aid. 
  2. Current YMCA Lifeguard or American Red Cross Lifeguard.
  3. Minimum five years swim lesson instruction experience.
  4. Working computer knowledge and excellent communication skills.
  5. Ability to demonstrate (pre-hire) and maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  6. Completion of required trainings. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
  2. Meet strength and lifting requirements.
  3. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
Essential Functions
  1. Budget administration for all assigned departments.
  2. Hires, supervises, schedules and trains all staff and volunteers in assigned departments.
  3. Maintains the highest safety standards in every aspect of aquatics operations.
  4. Works closely with the Executive Director and management staff to ensure effective communication and operations of all programs.
  5. Develops and maintains programs and scheduled member swim sessions year round at assigned sites.
  6. Adheres to the policies and procedures established by the management staff and CYEDC Board of Directors.
  7. Attends clinics, workshops, trainings and meetings as required.
  8. Maintains accurate records for all programs.
  9. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
  10. Performs safety and program equipment checks and ensures equipment is available as needed.
  11. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
  12. Provides on-boarding and leadership of lifeguards and aquatic instructors.
  13. Maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  14. Any other duties deemed necessary to ensure the success of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.
