Job Description

Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director, the Associate Executive Director will have oversight and management of assigned areas of a YMCA branch, with a strong focus on membership growth and retention, health and fitness, active older adults, aquatics, properties, volunteer and staff development, community relations and collaborations with community agencies, and assigned committees.

Salary Range: $53,000 to $58,000 This position is year-round, full-time exempt.

All Employees receive a free individual membership and anyone working 10+ hours receives a free family membership, 50-100% off our programs and if eligible, we contribute the equivalent of 10% of your salary to the YMCA Retirement Fund.

Full-time employees enjoy a minimum of 3 weeks of paid vacation, 88 hours of paid sick time, and 8 paid holidays per year. Free YMCA programs include: after-school programs, Camp NOCO traditional day camp, youth sports, learn to skate, and swim lessons. Discounted YMCA programs include: preschool, YMCA Camp Santa Maria overnight camp, personal training, and specialty summer camps. The Y offers generous medical, dental, and vision benefits. We provide long-term disability and life insurance at no cost to full-time employees.

Part-Time employees also receive paid sick time at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in education, human services, social services, business or equivalent.
  2. Two or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  3. The ability to develop and maintain quality programs is essential. Because of the program diversity, strong organizational and supervisory skills are required.
  4. Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  5. Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  7. Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  9. YMCA Team Leader Certification required with 90 days of hire. YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred.
  10. CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
Essential Functions
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops, maintains, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in the service delivery area.
  • Ensures that branch programs and events meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Assists in hiring, training, development and supervision of staff.
  • Assists in the development and management of operating budgets for the specific branch areas and meets or exceeds budget targets.
  • Works with Department Leads to establish new program activities and program expansion within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans ensuring financial and operational efficiency.

  • Develops and directs high-quality relationship-based member engagement strategies. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  • Develops, implements, and provides daily oversight of membership, healthy living, aquatics and family programming.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs in all departments to support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment, working with the appropriate departments to address any issues in a timely manner.
  • Actively participates in relevant Branch Councils and fundraising campaigns.
  • Assists in creating marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate the benefits to the community.
  • Participates in required Manager on Duty shifts.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
