This position supports the work of the Altavista Area Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization, located in a town with 3,200 residents and serving a community of 20,000 people. We are the smallest town in America with a full operating Y that works closely with town council, area schools and other nonprofits. Qualifications

1.Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent, preferred. A minimum of an associate degree in a related field, plus three years of sports/family programming experience.

2.   The minimum age is 21.

3.   Within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Volunteers, CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood borne Pathogens.

4.   Ability to relate effectively and engage diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

5.   Strong computer, and organizational skills

6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

7. Valid driver's license 

Essential Functions

1.   Direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

2.   Develop, organize and implement family-oriented programs throughout the year.

3.   Recruit, hire, train, develop schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.

4.   Attract, train, supervise and conduct meetings with coaches, referees, and umpires.

5.   Communicate well with youth, parents, players, volunteers, and sponsors

and meets. Organize space, equipment, and staff for each program, maximizing the use of time and space.

6.   Maintain athletic fields, facilities, and equipment.

7.   Actively coordinates the supervision of the gymnasium

8.   Work and partner with other area agencies, civic groups, churches, and local schools

9.   Secure sponsors for youth sports teams

10. Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.

11. Develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.

12. Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.

13. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions. Respond to

all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.

14. Assists with Program Committee meetings.

15. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation

in program.

Cause-Driven Leadership Competencies

Work towards the YMCA Team Leader certification within the first year of employment.
