Job Description

Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Youth Development Director develops, organizes, implements and oversees high quality YMCA youth programs in accordance with the purposes and policies of the Association. This individual is directly responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Youth Development Department at the Centennial Hills YMCA. The incumbent will also provide leadership and direction of the Association’s Youth Development Cabinet focused on Day Camp, Teens, and Enrichment programs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in a related field (required)
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in child/youth development related field, including 4 years of camp leadership experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a role with administrative responsibilities
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience supervising staff with a proven track record of developing rising stars for advancement
  • Subject matter expert in child/youth development
  • Advanced training in CPS reporting
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Polished speaker who is comfortable presenting in large and small groups that may include board members, executives, school principals, and staff members
  • Ability to think strategically and use evidence-based principles to grow programs and drive results
  • Ability to work collaboratively across levels and disciplines
  • Ability to manage complex grant funded programs and associated reporting
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Previous YMCA experience preferred
Essential Functions
  1. Manages and directs all Youth Development programs at the Centennial Hills branch, including summer camp, holiday camps, kid’s gym, parent’s night out, teen programs, and birthday parties with the support of a full-time coordinator.
  2. As the cabinet chair, leads fellow Youth Development Directors in the planning and implementation of the association summer day camp that serves upwards of 2,000 young people each summer. Supports youth development directors across all branches in managing their summer camp programming, tackling challenges, hiring and training 150+ seasonal staff, achieving budget goals, and ensuring quality standards are met.
  3. Aligns Youth Development programming association-wide. Pricing, policies, quality standards and strategic decisions are made in the best interest of the association over any one branch.
  4. Establishes new programs, increases program participation, and expands day camp locations within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  5. Responsible for strategic succession planning within Youth Development, through successful onboarding of new youth development directors at the branches, development of coordinator, intentional efforts to identify star performers, and motivating staff to achieve goals.
  6. Develops, manages, and controls department budget. Supports the development of the Day Camp, Teens, and Enrichment programs budgets for other three branches. Submits final camp budget for approval. Tracks and evaluates financial performance, and makes immediate corrections as needed.
  7. Ensures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program operations, equipment, and facilities. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety and emergency procedures are followed by all staff. Owns association camp safety plan and facilitates safety audits. Keeps policies and procedures up to date.
  8. Develops and maintains relationships with community partners, schools, parents, donors, and oversight agencies. Assesses opportunities for new partnerships and makes recommendations to Chief Operating Officer or Branch Executive Director.
  9. Maintains proper records and department files ensuring all documentation and certifications are current. Meets deadlines and responds to all communication in a timely and professional manner. Performs additional administrative tasks as needed.
  10. Primary point of contact for parent or child de-escalation conversations. Resolves complex and sensitive issues calmly and effectively utilizing proven behavior modification techniques.
  11. Keeps up with industry trends in child/youth development. Makes recommendations to Chief Operating Officer and Branch Executive Director.
  12. Performs all other duties as assigned.
