POSITION SUMMARY:

The full time Senior Aquatics Director creates and maintains continuity of safety and quality programming across the Association. The Senior Aquatics Director will ensure that all facets of the MetroWest YMCA's aquatic spaces and programs meet the needs of families and the community. This position will oversee the development, administration, operations, scheduling, and supervision of, but not limited to, swim lessons, swim team, lap and recreational swimming, water exercise, safety certification, and aquatic safety and risk management. Will perform other duties as assigned. This role reports to the Associate Executive Director of Recreation and Youth Development. This role is physically active and operationally involved.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Five (5) years of aquatics management required.

3. CPR for Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, Oxygen, and Lifeguard, YMCA Swim Instructor certification current or ability to acquire certification.

4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to see and hear noises and distress signals. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Essential Functions

CORE EXPECTATIONS:

1. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

• Establishes new program activities and expands the program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

• Compiles program and accident statistics to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.

• Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.

• Assists in the marketing and distribution of all program information.

• Supervises administration of safety classes and EAP’s in accordance with an authorized provider agreement(s), code of conduct(s) and all other obligations and requirements. 

2. STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

• Works collaboratively with branch leadership and program directors to ensure a safe environment.

• Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.

• Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Leads regular staff meetings and in-service trainings in the area of risk management.

• Ensures optimal training and supervision of lifeguards in particular, including scheduling regular safety drills across departments.

3. MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

• Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

• Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.

• Builds relationships with and among members, responds to inquiries and solves problems.

• Creates a safe and supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause.

4. BUDGET & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

• Plans and manages department budgets as approved in a fiscally responsible manner.

• Responsible for timely and accurate payroll for departments.

• Submits monthly financial notes and enrollment numbers on a timely basis.

5. FACILITY MANAGEMENT

• Responsible for A.E.D and O2 for the association.

• Monthly facility walk-throughs with facilities staff to identify operational risk and to provide facilities for members that are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive.

• Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Leads the maintenance of accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

• Manages Quick Check program and produces monthly report. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations including maintaining safe ratios of guards and be available on an “on call” basis as required.

6. VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT

• Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.

• Works as staff liaison to the Swim Team parent committee.

7. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT

Assists in YMCA fundraising activities/events and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community. 

Required Certifications
