Job Description

The Aquatics Coordinator II oversees immediate aquatics staff, programming, and operations in conjunction with the Aquatics Director. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Additionally, the Aquatics Coordinator maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. 

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Aquatics programming.   
  • Certifications: Certified lifeguard including CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid. Higher levels of certification are accepted. 

Willing to obtain: 

  • YMCA Swim Instructor v6 Certification 
  • YMCA Swim Official Certification 
  • Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification  
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.  
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and computer skills. 

Preferred Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to aquatics, fitness, recreation, or related degree program  
  • Experience in a supervisory role 
  • Experience managing a department budget and meeting budgetary goals and objectives 
Essential Functions
  • Supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Assists in establishing new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.   
  • Supervises aquatics staff and volunteers including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, in-services, scheduling, reviews, and evaluations of performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve department and Y goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.  
  • Assists in staff development, culture, and engagement.  
  • Assists in developing and monitoring program budget helping to meet and exceed program expectations and fiscal goals. 
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.  
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of Aquatics programming including swim lessons, facility rentals, and the Northerns Swim Team.  
  • Helps with swimming lessons or lifeguard shifts as needed.  
  • Assists with lifeguard work breaks, ensures proper coverage of pool, and provides “on-call” support as needed.  
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.   
  • Schedules pool usage as well as staff.  
  • Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.   
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.   
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
