Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Finance Director at the Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA (CCA YMCA) serves on the CEO’s senior leadership team; oversees and manages financial matters, investments and information systems; and provides strategic direction and leadership for the CCA YMCA business operations and initiatives. The Financial Director also positions the CCA YMCA as a community convener and collaborator to address critical social issues.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance or equivalent required; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred but not required.
  •  Six or more years of substantive experience in accounting and fiscal management preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of general business matters required including, but not limited to, budget development, financial reporting, cash management, business taxes, banking and reconciliations, and debt financing instruments.
  • Experience and understanding of GAAP preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer systems including experience with system selection, new system implementation and project management.
  • Experience with investment management and asset allocation preferred.
  • Experience in effectively managing and working with a staff team.
  • Previous experience with voluntary/ nonprofit organizations preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to multitask and perform with considerable independence and initiative.
  • Bi-lingual preferred but not required.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification achieved within 60 days of hire.
  •  Must complete any and all required trainings within 60 days of hire including, but not limited to, Employee Orientation and Stewards of Children. 
Essential Functions

·         Monitors monthly financial operations, prepares analysis and reports, and gives guidance to executive and operating staff. Works closely with operations staff on issues that affect financial outcome. Secures and allocated program or project resources so that strategic objectives can be achieved. Prepares specific recommendations.

·         Reviews, updates, and/or develops internal control systems for the CCA YMCA and oversees internal audits, which check for compliance on a variety of polices, and standards. Provides recommendations for improvements.

·         Manages the staff and oversees the operations of the accounting/finance, information systems, and other assigned departments.

·         Oversees and certifies the annual audit and meets periodically with the outside auditors to maintain communications and keep them informed of changes in the CCA YMCA. Ensures that current accounting standards and legal requirements are met.

·         Actively engages the Board to challenging conversations and decision making to advance the CCA YMCA’s impact. Works directly with assigned committee(s) of the Board (e.g., Finance, Insurance, Investment, Audit) to build volunteer relationships, develop polices, monitor their implementation and meet the related needs of the Board.

·         Anticipates trends and their implications on the future of the organization. Monitors investments, under the direction of the Investment Committee, and within the risk tolerance expressed by the Board via the asset allocation policy.

·         Develops performance indicators and measurement systems for tracking strategic plan objectives. Evaluates current business models and leads efforts to modify or redesign business models where necessary.

·         Oversees preparation of reports to YMCA of the USA and governmental agencies.

·         Manages the annual independent audit, the preparation of the financial statements and the IRS 990 tax form. Prepares or oversees the preparation of required audit schedules; maintains records; acts as liaison with audit team and YMCA Finance Committee.

·         Oversees the development of the annual operating budget. Guides the organization to make tough choices about what to stop, start, and continue. Works closely with the operations staff to ensure that branch budgets are well planned, realistic, and prepared in a timely manner.

·         Manages Third Party and NJ State Funding transactions and files all necessary reports. Establishes, maintains, and/or monitors all banking and financing relationships.

·         Implements appropriate systems and internal controls to adequately safeguard the CCA YMCA’s financial resources and to provide a solid basis for accurately reporting financial data.

·         Prepares or supervises the preparation of outside reports and filing such as YUSA, Preschool education, and 501c3 insurance.

·         Oversees the month-end and year-end closings, reconciliations, and the preparation of statements and reports.

·         Collects and maintains data on government contracts and grants.

·         Manages and supervises full time payroll and accounts payable staff in compliance with all state and federal laws.

·         Maintains all necessary records and accounting reports and records all transactions in a timely manner.

·         Maintains good working relationships with auditors, bankers, investments counselors, attorneys, and other professional advisors and stakeholders.

·         Maintains integrity and transparency to the CEO and Board of all transactions.

·         Maintains privacy of the CCA YMCA financial records and information as appropriate. 

·         Perform other duties as assigned.
