Job Description

The Camp Curtin YMCA is seeking a Child Care Director to oversee the daily operation of our full-day child care program.

Qualifications

The Child Care Director MUST meet one of the criteria listed below:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child
    development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of
    experience with children.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human field and 2 years of experience with children.
  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 yearsof experience with children.
  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 4 years of experience with children.
Essential Functions

1. Plan and execute the program and curriculum for the full-day Child Care Center and assure that the
program provided meets the highest quality standards.

2. Maintain a strong staff by recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and appraising the work of the day
care teaching and support personnel.

3. Give personal attention and supervision to every aspect of the Day Care operation.

4. Interview and provide tours to prospective families.

5. Establish goals and objectives for the day care program that are consistent with those of the YMCA and
what is developmentally appropriate for the children in care.

6. Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing with parents on an ongoing basis.

7. Implement staff meetings at a time which all staff can attend.

8. Always maintain responsibility for the safety and supervision of the children.

9. Responsible to maintain a staff schedule to ensure that all ratios remain in compliance with regulations.
This may include acting as a classroom teacher or opening/closing the center on short notice.

10. Ensure the development of weekly lesson plans that fit the children’s developmental needs and
interests.
