Camp Description
The mountains of western North Carolina are calling you! Centrally located between Boone, Asheville, and Charlotte, YMCA Camp Harrison operates overnight camp, day camp, weekend camps, and a retreat center for groups of all kinds on its 2100 acres. Staff responsibilities include leading and operating activities that includes but not limited to our zip line/climbing wall, paintball, target sports, and traditional water activities on our private lake. Staff will also lead environmental education classes for various grade levels, assist with running our Nature Center, and facilitate teambuilding exercises. During the fall season, we host multiple therapeutic recreation groups. Compensation includes, starting pay $10 per hour (depending on experience), CPR/first aid certification, and lifeguard certification if interested, YMCA membership, and enjoying the surrounding beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You will also be exposed to all departments required to run a successful nonprofit organization. Position is available mid-August through mid-December, with potential opportunity for multiple season work. Job Description

Under the supervision of the Coordinator/Director and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the incumbent will execute all facility use and special events.

Qualifications
  • Must have high school diploma  (or be in the process of receiving a degree)
  • Basic programming knowledge, ability to enhance creativity in programming events and experience working with the public,
  • Good with children and families. 
  • Safety certifications and all trainings and certifications in accordance with the Quality Standards within required timeframe.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for attending committee meetings and interacting with ideas.
  • Will aid the Coordinator/Director in implementing and executing programs for families/community guests (ie. birthday parties, community gatherings, church activities/usage).
  • Planning of event including event schedule, activities, scheduling speakers and/or special guests, helping to set up for event, working at the event and clean up for the event.
  • Be available to participants, guests, and members for questions, comments and concerns.
  • Responsible for set up of party/event area(s)
  • Instruct the participants/children in facility use guidelines for the event
  • Aid participants as needed.
  • Upkeep and cleaning of room, tables, chairs, floors, and mirrors.
  • Risk management maintenance and security of the facility, including locking of the doors.
  • Distribution of payment reminders, t-shirts, or evaluations when appropriate.
  • Be available to membership for questions, comments and concerns.
