The mountains of western North Carolina are calling you!
Centrally located between Boone, Asheville, and Charlotte, YMCA Camp Harrison operates overnight camp, day camp, weekend camps, and a retreat center for groups of all kinds on its 2100 acres. Staff responsibilities include leading and operating activities that includes but not limited to our zip line/climbing wall, paintball, target sports, and traditional water activities on our private lake. Staff will also lead environmental education classes for various grade levels, assist with running our Nature Center, and facilitate teambuilding exercises. During the fall season, we host multiple therapeutic recreation groups.
Compensation includes $400 per week, shared housing, CPR/first aid certification, and lifeguard certification if interested, YMCA membership, and enjoying the surrounding beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You will also be exposed to all departments required to run a successful nonprofit organization. Position is available mid-August through mid-December, with potential opportunity for multiple season work. Job Description
Under the direction of the Conference and Retreat Director, and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the Conference and Retreat Program Counselor is responsible for safety, supervision, programming and involvement with program participants at the designated YMCA Camp and Conference Center.
Qualifications
- Mature individual with good moral character and integrity.
- Clear communication skills with children, adults, co- workers and supervisors.
- Leadership experience with youth groups, school, church or community.
- Skill and ability in specific program responsibility.
- Strong decision-making skills and initiative.
- Safety certifications and all trainings and certifications in accordance with the Quality Standards within required timeframe.

Essential Functions
- Provide a safe environment for all participants and staff
- Guide and direct participants in a variety of camp activities

- Take part in all trainings to develop proficiencies required for performing job responsibilities
- Cooperate in maintaining the grounds, and see that facility equipment is used properly, and returned in good condition
