Job Description

Children in our programs enjoy enriching programs that aim to give children a well-rounded experience. Activities include physical activities, social-emotional learning (self-management, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making), creativity, critical thinking, and voice and choice, to create an environment for children to have positive social experiences. The Youth Development Director has a unique opportunity to impact the lives of the changemakers of tomorrow. 

As a Youth Development Director, you manage six childcare (after-school & summer camp) programs' development, delivery, and quality. You'll create teams driven to build memorable and remarkable moments for young learners. You foster positive relationships with parents, team members, peers, and the community. You'll spend time in multiple sites leading, coaching, and holding the team accountable to ensure a high-quality program. 

Salary: $51,000 - $55,000 per year, depending on experience. Final compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.

Qualifications
  • Education:
    • A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is required. A focus on recreation management, education, child development, or related field is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Professional childcare experience, including experience supervising others.
    • Previous YMCA experience is strongly preferred.
    •  Bilingual (Spanish/English) is strongly preferred
  • Certifications: 
    • The position requires Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) (formerly overseen by TDFPS) Program Director certification. Must be or have the ability to become certified according to HHSC standards.
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification or become certified upon hire
    • Required to complete the following online training upon hire: Before & After School Program, Child Abuse Prevention, Appropriate Touch, Bloodborne Pathogens, Foundations of Listen First, and Intro to Cause and Culture

Essential Functions
  • Hold the team accountable for achieving at high levels to meet strategic goals and objectives. 
  • Model inclusive leadership behaviors and embraces all dimensions of diversity – building strong teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to our mission. 
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, and managing all direct reports and ensuring alignment with association people practices for all positions within their organizational structure. 
  • Conduct Quarterly Check-ins and the Annual Check-In with direct reports to ensure progress with OKRs, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, and discuss development opportunities. 
  • Implement a goal-based leadership approach (OKR methodology) and ensure the development department is actively working towards supporting organizational-level objectives and key results.
  • Oversees daily program operations in at least 6 childcare sites, ensuring that staff adhere to and exceed all state, local, and Y health and safety regulations through daily monitoring of programs.
  • Continuous focus on evaluating the quality of each assigned program; ensuring proper delivery of the curriculum; identifying opportunities for program improvement and staff development
  • Research, schedule, and communicate camp field trips, as assigned
  • Ensures new staff have the necessary support, guidance, and mentoring to fulfill their job responsibilities
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance employee development and staff retention.
  • Monitor and approve weekly schedules and payroll in adherence with program budgets
  • Participates in the development and delivery of staff training; this includes classroom and virtual presentations
  • Serves as a professional and engaging representative of the Y; establishes, develops, and maintains positive relationships with principals, parents, staff, program participants, and licensing representatives.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to accomplish collective goals.
  • Addresses and resolves concerns, providing follow-up, documentation, and training as needed
  • Responsible for ensuring that all program-related paperwork is current, accurate, and submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures in a proactive manner, making the safety and care of children your primary focus
  • Actively participate in all aspects of staff development, including team meetings, pre-service trainings, and at least an additional 15 hours of training during the school year.
  • Assist with special projects and activities assigned by the supervisor. 
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
