Camp Program Coordinator

The YMCA of Rock River Valley's YMCA Camp Winnebago is seeking two cause-driven leaders to serve as the Camp Program Coordinator.
Job Description

The Camp Program Coordinator supports the work of the Y, which is committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. A Lead Recreation Facilitator provides leadership among the facilitator team and all-season programming, provides direct supervision of a group of children, facilitates challenge course operations and enhances learning experiences through creative and recreational supplemental programming. This position fosters a safe and nurturing environment for all program participants in all-season camp programming.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Outdoor education and/or recreation program experience preferred.
  • Challenge Course and Archery certifications required upon hire.
  • Training required upon hire: IL Gateways Child Development Overview, IL DCFS Child Abuse and Neglect/Mandated Reporter.
  • CPR, AED, First Aid, and CPI Certifications required within 90 days.
  • Praesidium Academy trainings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
Essential Functions
  1. Coordinates quality programs including, but not limited to, non-day-camp summer programming; Rotary Academy; environmental education; team-building retreats; school’s out camp days; climbing, low and high ropes; and seasonal events. Works with all-season team to develop and implement engaging new lesson plans for programs.
  2. Creates and innovates activity and program ideas and ensures all-season programs meet the needs of the participant, to positively impact retention, recruitment and relationships. Creates and implements curriculum.
  3. Actively participates in staff and participant recruitment for all-season programs and events.
  4. Coordinates schedules for all-season programming to ensure full coverage during operating hours.
  5. Coordinates staff, serving as an example/mentor, to develop a cohesive team by working alongside team members during shifts throughout the week. Conducts and participates in department onboarding and staff training.
  6. Works with branch leadership to coordinate programs and special projects as developed as assigned. Assists with development of new programs and special projects.
  7. Provides supervision, guidance and leadership for program participants in all-season programs.
  8. Partners and coordinates with facilitators to optimize program success.
  9. Models appropriate behaviors including core values, cleanliness, punctuality, sharing, healthy habits, and good sportsmanship.
  10. Provides constant supervision with each activity to ensure the safety of all program participants.
  11. Demonstrates camp stewardship by maintaining cleanliness of buildings and grounds and applying talents to camp-improvement projects. Maintains program site and equipment. Ensures facility is clean, well equipment and maintained at all times.
  12. Promotes camp programs and events to the community.
  13. Provides a safe and nurturing environment for all.
  14. Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
  15. Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
  16. Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.
